The Wire EDM Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining Wire EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) machines to manufacture precision components, molds, dies, and tooling used in marine engineering, boat building, and fabrication operations. The role requires strong technical knowledge, precision machining skills, and the ability to work with tight tolerances and engineering drawings.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate Wire EDM machines for precision cutting and machining of metal components.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD files, and technical specifications.
- Prepare materials and fixtures prior to machining operations.
- Monitor machining processes to ensure dimensional accuracy and surface finish quality.
- Produce precision parts, molds, tooling, and components for marine and fabrication projects.
- Perform machine calibration, alignment, and routine maintenance.
- Inspect finished components using precision measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and CMM tools when required.
- Troubleshoot machine issues and coordinate with maintenance when necessary.
- Optimize cutting parameters to improve productivity and minimize material waste.
- Maintain records of machining operations and completed jobs.
- Ensure compliance with marine engineering standards and workshop safety procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness and proper housekeeping of the EDM work area.
Requirements
- Technical Diploma or Certification in Mechanical Engineering, Machining Technology, or related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience operating Wire EDM machines, preferably in marine, tooling, or manufacturing industries.
- Strong knowledge of EDM programming and machine setup.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering and technical drawings.
- Knowledge of precision machining and tolerances.
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM software is an advantage.
- Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
