Woman Medical Officer (WMO) – Job Description

Job Title: Woman Medical Officer (WMO)

Job Purpose:
To provide high-quality medical care to patients, diagnose and treat illnesses, promote preventive healthcare, and support maternal, reproductive, and child health services in hospitals or primary healthcare facilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Examine, diagnose, and treat patients in outpatient and inpatient settings.
• Provide antenatal, postnatal, family planning, and reproductive health services.
• Manage normal deliveries and identify high-risk pregnancies for referral.
• Provide emergency medical care and stabilize critically ill patients.
• Prescribe medications and develop treatment plans.
• Perform minor medical and surgical procedures within the scope of practice.
• Maintain accurate patient records and medical documentation.
• Educate patients on disease prevention, nutrition, maternal health, and healthy lifestyles.
• Supervise nursing and paramedical staff where required.
• Participate in immunization, public health, and disease surveillance programs.
• Refer patients to specialists when necessary.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, ethical standards, and infection prevention protocols.
• Participate in clinical meetings, audits, and continuing medical education.

Qualifications

• MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
• Valid medical registration/license with the relevant medical council.
• House job/internship completed. minimum 2 years experience required
• Prefer training in obstetrics and gynecology or family medicine is an advantage.
