Fabrication Wood Shop Assistant Manager

Position Summary
The Fabrication Shop Assistant Manager supports the daily operations of the fabrication department by assisting with production planning, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring projects are completed safely and efficiently. This is a hands-on role that requires active participation in wood fabrication activities while helping oversee workflow, equipment maintenance, and shop organization.
The ideal candidate is a motivated leader with strong experience in wood fabrication who can effectively balance production responsibilities with team leadership and operational support.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in supervising the daily operations of the fabrication shop.
- Work alongside the wood fabrication shop to complete projects.
- Help coordinate production schedules and prioritize workloads to meet project deadlines.
- Assist with assigning daily tasks.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and fabrication specifications.
- Perform wood fabrication processes, including cutting, welding, grinding, assembly, and finishing.
- Ensure all fabricated products meet company quality standards and project specifications.
- Monitor shop cleanliness, organization, and adherence to safety procedures.
- Assist with inventory management, material ordering, and equipment maintenance coordination.
- Identify production issues and recommend process improvements to increase efficiency.
- Serve as acting shop leader in the absence of the Fabrication Shop Manager.
- Support cross-department collaboration with warehouse, project management, and operations teams.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 3 years of wood fabrication, carpentry, manufacturing, or metalworking experience.
- Previous experience leading or mentoring employees preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining a team-oriented mindset.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
- CNC machine operation and programming experience preferred.
- Experience operating forklifts and pallet jacks.
- Experience in custom fabrication or production environments.
- OSHA safety training or certification preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb throughout the workday.
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally heavier materials with assistance or mechanical equipment.
- Ability to safely operate fabrication equipment and material handling equipment.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, steel-toe boots, and welding PPE when required.
Work Environment
- Primarily works in a wood fabrication and manufacturing shop environment.
- Regular exposure to loud machinery, welding operations, dust, wood/metal particles, and varying temperatures.
- Overtime and occasional weekend work may be required based on production schedules.

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
