Stairplan Ltd is a well-established UK staircase manufacturer producing high-quality bespoke timber staircases. Based in Telford, we operate from a modern joinery facility using a combination of traditional craftsmanship and advanced CNC technology.

Due to continued growth we are looking for an experienced Wood Machinist to join our production team producing precision timber components used in staircase manufacture.

This role requires someone with strong woodworking machining experience who can confidently operate a range of professional joinery machinery while maintaining high standards of accuracy and efficiency.

The Role

You will be responsible for machining timber components used in bespoke staircase production.

The role involves selecting and preparing timber, interpreting cutting lists and drawings, and machining components accurately while optimising material usage.

This is a hands-on role for an experienced machinist, working within a well-equipped joinery workshop.

Machinery

Our workshop includes a wide range of professional woodworking machinery including:

• Cross Cut Saws
• Rip Saws
• Surface Planers
• Planer Thicknessers
• Weinig Powermat CNC Moulders
• Spindle Moulders
• Sanding Machines
• Beam Saws and Wall Saws
• Timber Laminating Clamps and Press Systems

Experience operating multi-head moulders or similar machinery would be highly beneficial.

Key Responsibilities

• Selecting and grading timber for machining
• Interpreting and optimising cutting lists and job sheets
• Machining timber components to high accuracy standards
• Operating and maintaining woodworking machinery
• Ensuring consistent quality and finish of machined parts
• Working efficiently while minimising timber waste
• Maintaining a clean, safe and organised work area
• Following workshop health and safety procedures

Essential Skills & Experience

• Previous experience as a Wood Machinist in a joinery or woodworking environment
• Confidence operating multiple woodworking machines
• Good knowledge of timber species and machining properties
• Ability to read drawings, cutting lists and production information
• High attention to detail and quality standards
• Reliable with a strong work ethic

Desirable Experience

• Experience operating 6 Head moulders or Weinig Powermat machines
• Bench joinery or staircase manufacturing experience
• Tool room or cutter grinding knowledge

Job Details

Location: Stairplan Ltd, Hortonwood 1, Telford, TF1 7GN
Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:30pm (42.5 hours per week)
Pay: £16.00 – £20.00 per hour depending on experience
