We are currently looking for a project-based Senior WordPress Developer who can collaborate with our design and strategy teams to transform complex ideas into robust, scalable WordPress solutions.
Role Overview
As our WordPress Development Specialist, you will be responsible for building and extending custom WordPress solutions with a strong focus on:
- Backend development
- API integrations
- Custom plugin development
This is a project-based / contract role, with the potential for long-term collaboration on multiple projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, customize and maintain WordPress websites with a focus on backend architecture.
- Implement and manage API integrations (REST, JSON, third-party services, etc.).
- Develop, extend and maintain custom WordPress plugins to meet project-specific needs.
- Customize themes and templates beyond the standard options (functions.php, custom post types, taxonomies, hooks, filters, etc.).
- Ensure performance optimization (caching, queries, assets, Core Web Vitals) and security best practices.
- Work closely with our UX/UI design team to translate design systems and layouts into pixel-perfect, responsive WordPress implementations.
- Debug and resolve complex backend issues in staging and production environments.
- Integrate and configure third-party tools (e.g. marketing tools, CRMs, analytics, form services, payment gateways where relevant).
- Document technical solutions clearly for internal teams and future maintenance.
Requirements
- Strong experience in WordPress backend development (please indicate years of experience).
- Proven experience with API integration within WordPress (REST APIs, webhooks, JSON, OAuth, etc.).
- Proven experience in custom plugin development (not only modifying existing plugins).
- Solid knowledge of PHP, MySQL, and WordPress core architecture.
- Familiarity with WordPress hooks, filters, actions and custom post types.
- Experience working with Git or other version control systems.
- Ability to read and implement from Figma / design files with high attention to detail.
- Good understanding of security, performance optimization and best practices for WordPress.
- Comfortable working remotely and communicating asynchronously with an international team.
- Professional working proficiency in English (written and spoken).
Nice to Have
- Experience with WooCommerce or other e-commerce setups.
- Experience with headless WordPress (e.g. WP as a CMS with React, Next.js, etc.).
- Knowledge of ACF (Advanced Custom Fields) or similar tools.
- Experience with multilingual sites (WPML, Polylang or similar).
- Familiarity with CI/CD workflows and modern deployment practices.
