Legal Assistant – Workers' Compensation Defense

Work Remote Optional – California Residents Only

Job Purpose:
This role involves performing a wide range of complex and responsible legal and administrative tasks. The position supports attorneys by preparing and proofreading legal documents, coordinating case materials, and ensuring accurate and timely communication.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Transcribe dictation including status reports, conference summaries, and settlement disbursement reports.
  • Proofread and edit documents for accuracy in grammar, punctuation, format, and content.
  • Draft routine correspondence and memoranda.
  • Maintain case files, logs, and related records for assigned attorneys.
  • Prepare Pre-Trial Conference Statements, settlement documents, and trial exhibits.
  • Accurately record and bill time according to established procedures.
  • Operate office equipment such as copiers and scanners.
  • Handle incoming and outgoing calls.
  • Perform additional administrative and legal support tasks as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience as a Legal Secretary in workers’ compensation defense.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Adobe Acrobat, and cloud-based file sharing (e.g., Dropbox).
  • Strong typing ability (minimum 75 WPM) and excellent writing, proofreading, and grammar skills.
  • Familiarity with Case Management Software and EAMS is a plus.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion, and work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with clients, colleagues, and the public.

Location:
California (Remote optional; must be a California resident).

Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
