JOB SUMMARY
The Workers’ Compensation Supervisor works directly under the Human Resources Director and is responsible for overseeing the administration and management of workers’ compensation claims, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, and supporting injured employees through the claims process. This role requires specialized expertise in Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (LNI) claims and experience working with carriers such as The Hartford or other major insurance providers. The Supervisor will serve as the primary liaison between employees, management, healthcare providers, and insurance carriers to ensure timely, accurate, and fair resolution of claims.
JOB DUTIES
Manage and monitor all workers’ compensation claims from initial reporting through closure.
Ensure compliance with Washington LNI regulations, reporting requirements, and timelines.
Coordinate with The Hartford and other carriers to facilitate claims processing and resolution.
Serve as the main point of contact for employees regarding workers’ compensation benefits, rights, and responsibilities.
Provide guidance to managers and HR staff on claim procedures, documentation, and best practices.
Support return-to-work programs, including modified duty assignments and accommodations.
Maintain accurate records of claims, correspondence, and case notes.
Prepare and submit required reports to Washington LNI and insurance carriers.
Monitor trends in claims to identify risk areas and recommend preventive measures.
Collaborate with insurance carriers, third-party administrators, and medical providers to ensure efficient claim handling.
Negotiate with carriers on disputed claims or benefit determinations.
Ensure timely payment of benefits and medical expenses.
Supervise staff involved in claims administration and provide ongoing training.
Develop and implement policies and procedures for workers’ compensation management.
Conduct training sessions for managers and employees on workplace injury reporting and compliance.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Risk Management, or related field (preferred).
Minimum of 5 years of experience in workers’ compensation claims management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
Direct experience handling Washington LNI claims and working with The Hartford or other major carriers.
Strong knowledge of state and federal workers’ compensation laws and regulations.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills
Ability to manage multiple claims simultaneously with attention to detail and deadlines.
Proficiency in claims management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and mentor staff.
Must be available to work a flexible schedule and/or extended hours as needed.
Employees must provide their own reliable internet when working a remote/hybrid position.
The incumbent typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office. Incumbent may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the workday. The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to 20 pounds.
