Under the direction and guidance of the New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL), the Consortium for Worker Education (CWE) will develop and implement a network of NYC workforce service providers to offer job training, credentialing, and placement in well-paying jobs to approximately 2,400 young workers.
At least 75% of the program’s participants will be out-of-school, unemployed, or underemployed young adults residing in zip codes impacted by high rates of gun violence. This initiative treats gun violence as a public health crisis, using both short-term solutions and long-term community-based intervention and prevention strategies to break cycles of violence. A key prevention component focuses on providing access to and readiness for meaningful careers.
The Workforce Instructor is responsible for facilitating a variety of training courses, which may include (but are not limited to): Food Protection License, Retail Fundamentals, Basic Computer Literacy, First Aid/CPR, Driver’s Education, and OSHA.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for empowering youth and supporting participants through both the training and follow-up phases. This role requires the ability to understand participants’ challenges and translate them into engaging, practical, and supportive learning experiences.
The Workforce Instructor will report to the Career Services Director and collaborate closely with the Youth Workforce Team to meet program deliverables.
Facilitate engaging training sessions both virtually and in person at QCH’s Jamaica and Pomonok locations.
Coordinate all aspects of the National Retail Federation and NYC Food Protection courses, including lesson facilitation, exam preparation, attendance monitoring, case management, and retention follow-up.
Develop and enhance existing curriculum for Workforce Readiness training, covering topics such as resume writing, cover letters, goal setting, mock interviews, financial literacy, and soft-skill development.
Model and teach appropriate workplace behavior and communication skills.
Conduct participant orientations and open house sessions.
Develop classroom handouts, instructional materials, visual aids, and manuals.
Support participants in identifying and developing career goals based on individual interests and aptitudes.
Recruit and coordinate guest speakers as needed.
Maintain accurate documentation, including case notes, data entry, and other administrative tasks.
Provide case management support during the training phase and coordinate participant transitions with Case Managers.
Assess training effectiveness and ensure participants apply learned skills to real-world settings.
Periodically evaluate training programs for quality and effectiveness.
Assist in recruiting local businesses to provide internship and employment opportunities.
Collaborate with other Youth Workforce programs on curriculum development and facilitation.
Provide coverage and perform related duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or a minimum of 2 years of training experience, preferably with high school or young adult populations.
Strong oral and written communication, time management, and organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups.
Proven ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Maturity, integrity, and sound judgment.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and related computer applications.
High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential information.
Demonstrated record of consistent follow-through on assignments.
