1. Job Purpose

The Workover Supervisor is responsible for planning, supervising, and executing well workover and well intervention operations safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards, regulatory requirements, and best industry practices. Ensures that rig activities meet operational objectives while protecting personnel, equipment, and the environment.


2. Key Responsibilities

Operational Management

  • Supervise daily workover rig operations including well killing, pulling and running tubing, completions, well testing, ESP/rod pump installations, fishing, and well servicing activities.
  • Ensure all operations align with approved drilling/workover programs and procedures.
  • Coordinate with engineering, geology, production, and HSE teams to execute well plans.
  • Monitor well parameters and operational performance to identify risks or deviations.
  • Optimize rig time and minimize non-productive time (NPT).


Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce company HSE policies, standards, and safety procedures on-site.
  • Conduct daily toolbox talks, safety meetings, and hazard identification (JSA/TRA).
  • Ensure all operations comply with local regulations and industry standards (API, OGP, IADC).
  • Lead emergency response actions in case of incident or well control event.
  • Verify certification and readiness of equipment such as BOP, handling tools, safety valves, etc.'


Supervision & Coordination

  • Provide leadership to rig crews, service companies, and third-party contractors.
  • Ensure adequate supervision during critical stages such as well killing, fishing, and BOP operations.
  • Coordinate logistics for materials, equipment, and personnel to avoid delays.
  • Communicate closely with Workover Superintendent to report progress and issues.


Technical Support

  • Troubleshoot operational problems and recommend corrective actions.
  • Verify calculations for well control, cementing operations, tubing movement, and hydraulic forces.
  • Assist in preparing daily and end-of-well reports, cost tracking, and lessons learned.


3. Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (preferred).
  • Minimum 8–15 years of experience in workover, well servicing, or drilling operations.
  • Strong knowledge of well control principles; valid IWCF/WELLCAP certification.
  • Experience with ESP, gas lift, rod pump installations, completions, and fishing operations.
  • Experience in HPHT or sour gas wells (if applicable).


4. Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership and decision-making abilities.
  • Good communication and team management skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of rig equipment, well control, and downhole tools.
  • Ability to work under pressure in dynamic field conditions.
  • Strong awareness of safety and environmental procedures.
