Workshop Supervisor - Steel Fabrication

Overview
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Workshop Supervisor to oversee daily operations within our workshop environment. The ideal candidate is responsible for supervising daily operations in a steel fabrication workshop, ensuring production targets, quality standards, and safety requirements are consistently met. The role involves leading a team of fabricators, welders, and machinists while coordinating workflow, materials, and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Supervision & Team Leadership

  • Oversee and coordinate the activities of welders, fabricators, and workshop staff
  • Assign tasks based on priorities and workforce skills
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate team members
  • Maintain discipline and productivity within the workshop

2. Production Management

  • Plan and schedule fabrication work to meet deadlines
  • Interpret technical drawings and ensure accurate fabrication
  • Monitor workflow and adjust schedules as needed
  • Ensure optimal use of materials and minimize waste

3. Quality Control

  • Inspect ongoing and completed work to ensure it meets specifications
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and project requirements
  • Address defects or rework issues promptly

4. Health & Safety Compliance

  • Enforce workplace health and safety regulations
  • Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings
  • Ensure proper use of PPE and safe operation of machinery
  • Report and investigate incidents or near misses

5. Materials & Equipment Management

  • Coordinate material requirements with procurement/store teams
  • Monitor inventory levels and avoid shortages
  • Ensure machinery and tools are maintained and in good working condition

6. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain production records and daily reports
  • Track job progress and report to management
  • Assist with project planning and cost control

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Proven experience in steel fabrication and welding
  • Previous supervisory or foreman experience preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Strong knowledge of fabrication techniques and workshop practices
  • Familiarity with safety standards and regulations
  • Good leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: £42,000.00-£48,000.00 per year
