Position Summary
The Manitowoc-Two Rivers YMCA is seeking enthusiastic, responsible, and energetic individuals to join our team as Y-Camp Counselors. This seasonal position runs June 15 through August 14, with scheduled hours of 7:45 AM – 4:15 PM.

Camp Counselors play an important role in creating a safe, fun, and engaging environment for youth in kindergarten through 5th grade who participate in YMCA summer camp programs. Counselors lead activities, supervise campers, and help ensure every child has a positive and memorable camp experience.

Counselors are expected to conduct themselves in a professional and appropriate manner, serving as positive role models for children, parents, and coworkers by demonstrating the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Counselors must comply with all standards established by the State of Wisconsin Licensing Agency and assist in ensuring that all staff follow YMCA Childcare Policies and Procedures.

Our summer day camps are about much more than supervision. They focus on nurturing youth development by providing a safe place where children can learn new skills, build confidence and independence, form friendships, and discover a sense of belonging. Most importantly, camp creates an experience that is active, engaging, and full of fun.

This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with children, being active outdoors, and helping youth build confidence, friendships, and important life skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and engage a group of youth throughout the camp day.
  • Plan and lead age-appropriate activities such as games, sports, crafts, swimming, and outdoor adventures.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers at all times.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive environment for all children.
  • Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Communicate effectively with youth, parents, and fellow staff members.
  • Assist with daily setup, cleanup, and organization of supplies.
  • Follow YMCA policies, safety procedures, and emergency protocols.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Experience working with children preferred (camp, childcare, babysitting, coaching, etc.).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, active environment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred (training provided).

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

Must have the ability to demonstrate and/or show competency in the following areas:

  • Supervising youth and presenting positive role modeling through all interactions with program participants.
  • To meet program goals as outlined in the Childcare Policies and Procedures Manual
  • To keep confidences, loyalties and practice professionalism
  • Be reliable and dependable
  • Exercise mature judgment and sound decision making.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Learn, follow and enforce local Y and national guidelines related to internal policies.

Pay: From $12.36 per hour
