Yard Attendant / General Laborer – Waste & Recycling Transfer Station

Job Summary

Americas Recycling Company is seeking a reliable, hardworking Yard Attendant (Yard Hand) to support daily operations at our waste transfer and recycling facilities. This position is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and organized yard environment while assisting customers, drivers, equipment operators, and site personnel.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, around heavy equipment, trucks, and waste materials. This is a hands-on position requiring strong attention to safety, teamwork, and customer service.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Direct and assist customers, vendors, and truck drivers entering and exiting the facility.
• Inspect incoming and outgoing loads for compliance with facility acceptance policies.
• Maintain cleanliness of the transfer station, recycling areas, and yard.
• Pick up litter and debris throughout the property.
• Assist with sorting recyclable materials and identifying prohibited waste.
• Monitor traffic flow within the facility to ensure safe operations.
• Open and close facility gates as assigned.
• Perform general labor duties including sweeping, shoveling, washing equipment, and yard maintenance.
• Assist equipment operators and drivers as needed.
• Report safety hazards, equipment issues, or unauthorized dumping activities.
• Follow all company safety policies, environmental regulations, and operational procedures.
• Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous experience in waste management, recycling, construction, landscaping, or general labor preferred.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly.
• Comfortable working around heavy equipment and commercial vehicles.
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality required.
• Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work throughout the shift.
• Ability to work in dusty, noisy, and outdoor environments.
• Ability to safely navigate active industrial and waste processing areas.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $18.42 per hour
