Yard Hand

A Yard Hand at Dixie Pipe Sales is responsible for assisting with the movement, handling and organization of pipe inventory within the yard, supporting safe and efficient operations in all weather conditions. This position performs a variety of essential tasks to support Dixie Pipe Sales’ operations, focusing on safety, efficiency and maintaining organization throughout each workday. This position is integral to the daily operations and efficiency of the yard, providing crucial support for logistics, quality and safety.

Responsibilities

• Assisting forklift operators in loading and unloading steel pipe from trucks

• Inspecting pipe for damage, ensuring that all materials meet quality standards

• Moving pipe within the yard and ensuring correct placement based on supervisor instructions

• Installing strapping, bracing or padding to secure pipe for transit and prevent damage

• Verifying pipe heat numbers, quantities and proper chocking of inventory

• Painting, stenciling, sandblasting and applying coatings as needed

• Operating yard equipment and basic hand tools, including grinders and hammers

• Maintaining a clean and organized yard, including general yard maintenance (such as removing debris, cleaning equipment, replenishing supplies and ensuring the yard is free of hazards or obstructions)

• Supporting other yard maintenance and repair activities as directed

• Supporting inventory management and assisting with order fulfillment

• Following all company safety policies, wearing required personal protective equipment (“PPE”) and completing required safety orientations

• Working collaboratively with the rest of the team in the yard to complete tasks safely and efficiently

Skills & Qualifications

• Able to lift and handle objects up to 50 pounds

• Good hand/eye coordination and able to perform repetitive physical tasks

• Ability to work outdoors in all weather environments

• Basic math and reading skills are helpful; must be dependable and punctual

• Prior experience in pipe, valve and flange handling is a plus but not always required

• Reliable transportation and ability to pass a background check and safety orientation may be required

Pay: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour
