Yard Operator Technician-Iroquois Bio Energy

Job Summary:

Team player who takes the initiative to successfully execute the daily operations associated with handling incoming and outgoing corn, ethanol, or related products for the plant.


Major Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for safe and efficient operation and maintenance of corn, Dried Distillers Grains with Solubles (DDGS), Modified Distillers Grains with Solubles (MDGS) and ethanol unloading/loading systems and equipment.
  • Responsible for effective written and verbal communication of operational and maintenance issues related to assigned systems and equipment to the Yard Operations Coordinator, Maintenance and other necessary plant personnel.
  • Responsible for safe and efficient operation and maintenance of heavy equipment which may include a skid steer, front end loader, telehandler and rail mover to perform loading and grounds keeping tasks. The yard group is responsible for maintaining all yard and grounds, including dirt and snow work.
  • Responsible for driving motorized vehicles on and off of Dakota Spirit's worksite to load and unload railcars. Must have a valid driver's license to operate motorized vehicles in accordance with the law.
  • Responsible for accurately collecting and reporting weights and grades.
  • Responsible for moving rail cars on rail sidings utilizing mobile rail car switching unit or locomotive engine to facilitate the needs of loading and unloading operations.
  • Responsible for knowledge and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and compliance with federal and state regulations for assigned systems and equipment. Provides input on necessary changes or improvements to SOPs.
  • Assists Operations, Maintenance, Lab and other plant personnel as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental policies, procedure, laws and regulations. Report all noncompliance and endorse all aspects of HLCP's environmental management system.
  • Promote all aspects of HLCP's safety program, maintain safety awareness, report all unsafe acts and potentially unsafe acts or conditions that may cause injury to plant personnel or damage to equipment and report and investigate incidents.
  • Acts professionally and treats others with respect and consideration.
  • Promotes and supports a clean and safe workplace.

Key Skills and Competencies:

  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Skills in communication, both verbal and written to effectively communicate which includes strong report writing.
  • Ability to comply with health, safety, environmental laws, and regulations and company safety programs.
  • Ability to analyze, research, organize and interpret data; possess attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize time/workload to accomplish tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to create a team environment and create an environment of open dialog and continuous improvement with employees.
  • Ability to travel safety to the various locations throughout the plant using equipment or motorized vehicles.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must live within one-hour drive time of the plant location
  • Must have a valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior grain handling experience preferred
  • Certificate in power and/or process technology or other technical vocation preferred

Other:

  • Must have the flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends. Employee will be expected to work extra hours if necessary to complete scheduled tasks. This may include short notice to meet unit/car arrivals and/or departure deadlines.
