Yard Supervisor / Material Manager – Building Materials & Lumber Operations (Growth Potential)

Position Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated Yard Supervisor / Material Manager to lead day-to-day operations in our lumber and building materials. In this role, you will ensure efficient, safe, and organized handling of materials—from receipt to dispatch—with a focus on meticulous inventory control, process adherence, and strategic organization (including the liquidation of overstock). This role is hands-on and involves direct supervision of staff, it is designed for an emerging leader who will mentor and grow our team as operations expand.

Key Responsibilities:

Yard Operations:

• Oversee daily activities to ensure the safe and efficient handling, storage, and dispatch of a wide range of building materials (e.g., framing lumber, decking, siding, roofing, doors, windows).
• Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment in accordance with safety protocols.

Inventory & Process Management:

• Manage and control inventory, ensuring that materials are received, stored, and accounted for with precision.
• Utilize strategic mapping and process-driven methods to optimize the organization of materials and to efficiently liquidate overstock.
• Continuously evaluate and refine operating procedures to enhance efficiency and safety.

Safety & Quality:

• Enforce safety standards and maintain a clean, hazard-free environment.
• Conduct regular inspections and coordinate with management to address any operational issues.

Future Leadership Development:

• Collaborate with management to identify areas for process improvement.
• As the yard grows, assist in training and mentoring new team members to foster a culture of continuous improvement and excellence.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience in a lumber yard or a related role within the building materials industry.
• Deep familiarity with the handling and application of materials used in framing, decking, siding, roofing, doors, windows, etc.
• Background from another lumber yard, affiliated wholesaler/distributor, or field framing experience is preferred.
• Proficient in forklift operation and knowledgeable about safety regulations in a warehouse/yard environment.
• Exceptional organizational and strategic planning skills—with a track record of process adherence and inventory management.
• Excellent communication skills and a strong customer service mindset.
• A process-driven, detail-oriented approach and the eagerness to learn and grow within our culture.
