DEPARTMENT: Bridges

REPORTS TO: Bridges Program Director

FLSA: Non-exempt

HOURS: 3 to 5 hours a week for 44 weeks/year. Hours are subject to change with academic calendar and/or program needs

SALARY: $32/hr

START DATE: ASAP

HOLA’s Youth Media & Production Instructor is responsible for leading a weekly class for HOLA youth in grades 9-10 focusing on media production techniques, visual storytelling, and exploring related careers in the field. Responsibilities include curriculum planning, in-class instruction, prep and clean-up for each class, as well as individual student support and guidance as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and implement class syllabus & lesson plan
  • Provide exceptional art mentorship and classroom engagement
  • Act as a mentor and role model for youth and foster a safe, nurturing, and inspiring environment for HOLA youth
  • Work with Bridges Director to stay within the budget and order supplies for classes and workshops
  • Take attendance at each class meeting
  • Contribute to the cleanliness and organization of the shared studio space
  • Track and maintain photography equipment
  • Work collaboratively with Bridges staff on special projects and exhibitions
  • Archive and organize student projects
  • Update the Youth Media & Production Blog
  • Attend relevant staff meetings, special events, and training
  • Ability to be a strong role model for youth during all working hours
  • Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • College degree, B.A preferred
  • Experience working with high school youth
  • Experience facilitating visual storytelling curriculum
  • Experience with Adobe
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
  • Must pass CA DOJ background check

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The building environment may not provide air conditioning and heat in all areas. Outdoor work is expected in some cases.
