Summary of Position
The Probation Therapist (Associate or Licensed) works as part of Casa de Esperanza’s Clinical Department and is stationed at the Yuba County Youth Probation Department.

We are looking for an individual who has their number with the state: ASW, AMFT, APCC, LCSW, LMFT, LPCC.

This position provides trauma-informed, client-centered mental health services to youth and families who are currently involved with probation. The goal is to promote healing, accountability, and emotional well-being through culturally responsive care. Services include psycho-social assessments, safety planning, short-term therapy, treatment planning, timely documentation, referrals, and follow-up support. The therapist will facilitate trauma-informed group interventions applicable to justice-involved youth and families, engage in community outreach and speaking engagements, and collaborate regularly with probation staff while remaining an employee of Casa de Esperanza.

Responsible for informing, educating, advocating for, and referring client to local social agencies and services. This position may also assist with clinical supervision of non-licensed behavioral health staff and trainees and provide behavioral health education to company staff.

Qualifications & Work Experience

Licensed or associate-registered and in good standing with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) as an AMFT, ACSW, APCC, LMFT, LCSW, or LPCC. Experience providing behavioral health services (i.e., assessment, diagnosis, individual and group therapies) to diverse populations that span all ages. Prior experience working within a community mental health, substance use treatment facility, or primary care, medical setting preferred.

Proficiency in computer use required. Proficiency in written and spoken English. Bilingual preferred. Required upon hire – 40 hours of Domestic Violence Training and 8 hours of annual training thereafter.

Education
If a fully licensed clinician (LMFT, LCSW, or LPCC) is selected, they will be compensated at a higher pay rate within the approved salary range and will require clinical supervision on a monthly basis only.

Master’s degree in social work, psychology or related field. Knowledge of integrated behavioral health; mental health recovery, harm reduction, age specific growth and development, crisis and behavior management is expected. Working knowledge of administrative practices and procedures, HIPAA regulations, policies and standards related behavioral health.

Probation-Specific Competencies:

  • Conduct probation-informed clinical assessments, including psychosocial, trauma, and risk/needs assessments.
  • Understand juvenile justice systems, probation conditions, and court-mandated treatment requirements.
  • Collaborate with juvenile courts, probation officers, and legal stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Participate in probation multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and case staffing.
  • Provide written and verbal clinical summaries and reports for probation and court-related purposes, in compliance with confidentiality and ethical standards.
  • Balance therapeutic alliance with accountability requirements for justice-involved youth.
  • Apply evidence-based and trauma-informed interventions specific to justice-involved and high-risk youth populations.

Examples of Duties

  • Provide short-term, structured, evidence-based interventions as part of an appropriate treatment plan, which may include individual and/or group therapy, and possible coordination of treatment for participants with co-occurring disorders.
  • Provide direct clinical services to justice-involved youth and their families currently engaged with the Yuba County Youth Probation Department.
  • Facilitate trauma-informed, skills-based, and psychoeducational groups tailored to the probation population.
  • Engage in regular case consultation and coordination with probation officers and multidisciplinary staff.

Conduct community outreach, presentations, and speaking engagements related to services provided.
Represent Casa de Esperanza in interagency and community meetings.

  • Conduct probation-specific assessments, contribute clinical input for court and probation decision-making, and participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings.
  • Collaborate with probation officers, schools, and community partners to support coordinated care plans.
  • Assesses client needs, abilities or behavior using a variety of methods, including interviews and direct observation of behavior to assess and review their situations.
  • Flexibility in meeting with patients (in person, on a virtual platform, or telephonic).
  • Uses appropriate techniques for the evaluation and treatment of patients in a safe environment.
  • Provide evidenced evidence-basedased practices to individuals, couples, families, and groups.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with other members of care team.
  • Provide consultation services to multidisciplinary team members by evaluating therapeutic needs.
  • Documents and reviews documentation of integrated health visits, such as, demographic data, treatment plans, psychosocial history, progress notes, discharge planning, etc.
  • Oversees and assists each assigned client with individualized service planning and reviews.
  • Develops and implements intervention and treatment programs that the patients can interpret and comply with.
  • Provides culturally sensitive therapy modalities and develops and provides new services.
  • Assists in clinical discharge planning, referring clients to, or providing alternative services.
  • Facilitate referrals to other services, such as substance-abuse treatment, specialty care, and community resources, as needed.
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed.
  • Advocate for clients and work to resolve individual client barriers in order to facilitate and encourage follow-up and collaborative, interdisciplinary care.
  • Participates in staff meetings and other quality improvement meetings as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic health records of activities, and services provided to each client.
  • Submit billing daily that is accurate and complete.
  • Provide training and professional development of staff or community.

Travel Requirements

May regularly travel to other sites to provide patient care and/or attend meetings or training, occasionally overnight for training. Having the flexibility to work in multiple locations is expected.
