Responsible for planning and facilitating educational, and prevention activities through an evidence-based curriculum.
Creates an environment that is conducive to education and prevention learning;
Plans, prepares and delivers educational enrichment curriculum to include Positive Action by modeling and demonstrating characteristics to all participants enrolled in the Brave Program;
Develops and implements classroom and behavioral management skills;
Develops and maintains relationships with students and their families;
Provides individual and group tutoring sessions in all academic subject matter;
Assists in student recruitment, collecting data, and in preparation and submission of monthly reports;
Assists in all Youth Program activities to include coordinating and monitoring student transportation;
Monitors students academic progress and maintains accurate student file records and updates database accordingly;
Communicates regularly with Youth Services Coordinator in regards to lesson planning and implementation;
Other position related duties as assigned and required.
Minimum of 30 college credit hours towards an Associate or Bachelors degree; must be able to attain certification as Associate Prevention Specialist within 18 months of hire; CPR certified preferred or ability to attain certification within 6 months of hire; must possess a valid Texas Drivers License and be insurable; must be able to successfully pass a post-offer drug screen and criminal history background check.
KNOWLEGDE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of MS Office software such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint; must have excellent interpersonal skills and leadership attributes; outgoing personality and ability to work well with the youth and adults; knowledge of classroom management and lesson plan; Commitment to quality assurance in teaching and learning; excellent communication skill and diplomacy; knowledge of Texas academics core subjects; sensitive to a variety of personalities; Must be self-motivated; Must enjoy working with children; ability to maintain self-control and effectively deal with customers who may be difficult or rude; must be culturally sensitive.
While performing the essential function of this position, the employee is frequently to stand, sit, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds. The vision requirements include: close vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
