The Position

The City of Maple Grove is seeking a skilled Central Park Ice Loop Maintenance Specialist to maintain the seasonal Central Park Ice Skating Loop. This position is responsible for operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment to include but not limited to Zamboni operations. This position works independently under the general supervision of the Recreation Facilities Supervisor, Park Keepers, and Full-time Parks and Recreation Staff.

Responsibilities

• Performs general maintenance and cleaning of Central Park grounds and facility.
• Works cooperatively with other building staff to ensure strong communication of timing for and safety of ice resurfacing operations.
• Operates ice resurfacing machine (Zamboni) and other job-related equipment.
• Performs general maintenance of resurfacing machines and other icer elated equipment.
• Inspects and collects data for all refrigeration equipment
• Perform general outdoor and building maintenance.
• Attend training and other staff meetings.
• Enforcing Parks and Recreation policies.
• Responsible for security and emergency procedures including closing/opening of the facility.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of:

• Knowledge and experience with mechanical equipment necessary to maintain refrigerated ice including, but not limited to, refrigeration equipment, Zamboni and operating characteristics of assigned equipment.
• Knowledge of applicable work hazards and safety precautions
• Demonstrate some mechanical aptitude, ability to perform minor operating adjustments and to recognize operating deficiencies in assigned equipment.
• Knowledge of CPR and Basic First Aid training.

Ability to:

• Ability to perform routine cleaning and housekeeping duties.
• Ability to use hand and power tools.
• Ability to issue request on equipment in need of repair.
• Physical strength and ability sufficient to perform labor for extended periods.
• Ability to perform minor operating adjustments and to recognize operating deficiencies in assigned equipment.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to issue request on equipment in need of repair.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to handle diverse clientele in accordance with the Central Park policies and procedures.

Qualifications

An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered.

Need to have:

• Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
• Valid MN Driver’s License.

Nice to have:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• CPR and First Aid Certifications.
• Experience resurfacing ice arena’s and driving machinery.
• Familiarization with operation of ammonia-based refrigeration equipment.
• Experience with winter sidewalks; facility snow and ice management.
