Zamboni Driver / Ice Maintenance Technician

Position Summary

The Zamboni Driver / Ice Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining safe, clean, and high-quality ice conditions while ensuring the overall cleanliness, presentation, and operational readiness of the facility. This position plays a critical role in the customer experience by providing consistent ice quality for public skating, hockey, figure skating, camps, leagues, tournaments, and special events.

The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Ice Resurfacing Operations

Operate Zamboni ice resurfacing machines safely and efficiently.

Complete ice resurfacings according to facility schedules and event requirements.

Maintain proper ice thickness, hardness, and surface quality.

Monitor ice conditions throughout the day and address issues as needed.

Perform ice edging, shaving, scraping, flooding, and patching when necessary.

Maintain proper water temperatures and resurfacing procedures.

Remove snow accumulation from the ice surface and designated snow dump areas.

Ensure all resurfacing equipment is functioning properly before operation.

Ice Maintenance

Inspect ice regularly for cracks, holes, soft spots, ruts, and unsafe conditions.

Repair damaged ice immediately to maintain a safe skating environment.

Monitor rink boards, glass, netting, and gates for safety concerns.

Assist with seasonal ice installation and ice removal projects.

Support tournament, league, and special event ice preparation requirements.

Equipment Maintenance

Perform daily inspections of all ice maintenance equipment.

Check and maintain:

Water levels

Hydraulic systems

Tire pressures

Battery levels (electric units)

Propane systems (if applicable)

Cutting blade condition

Wash water and towel systems

Replace blades and adjust equipment as needed.

Report equipment issues promptly to management.

Maintain accurate maintenance and service logs.

Assist outside service technicians when necessary.

Facility Operations Support

Maintain cleanliness of:

Ice resurfacing room

Mechanical rooms

Locker rooms

Bleachers

Common areas

Exterior entrances

Empty trash and recycling receptacles as assigned.

Assist with setup and breakdown of:

Hockey games

Figure skating events

Camps

Public skating sessions

Tournaments

Move goals, benches, dividers, mats, and other equipment safely.

Interact professionally with guests, coaches, players, officials, and staff.

Respond politely to customer inquiries.

Represent The Rink On The Beach in a positive and professional manner.

Assist guests when needed while maintaining operational priorities.

Help create a welcoming, family-friendly environment.

Safety Responsibilities

Follow all facility safety policies and procedures.

Conduct pre-operation equipment inspections before every shift.

Immediately report hazards, accidents, injuries, or unsafe conditions.

Ensure rink gates are secured during resurfacing operations.

Maintain awareness of skaters and staff when operating equipment.

Follow OSHA, facility, and manufacturer safety guidelines.

Participate in emergency response procedures when necessary.

Additional Responsibilities

Assist with preventative maintenance projects throughout the facility.

Support facility improvement projects.

Assist operations staff during high-volume events.

Perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks as assigned.

Complete opening and closing checklists.

Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Required

Minimum 18 years of age.

Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.

Ability to operate heavy equipment safely.

Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds occasionally.

Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in cold environments for extended periods.

Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and flexible schedules.

Preferred

Previous Zamboni or ice resurfacing experience.

Ice rink operations experience.

Mechanical or maintenance background.

Trade skills including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, welding, or general maintenance.

Forklift or equipment operation experience.

Zero-Tolerance Standards

The following may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination:

Operating equipment in an unsafe manner.

Working under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Falsifying maintenance records.

Reckless operation of facility equipment.

Harassment, discrimination, or inappropriate behavior.

Failure to follow safety procedures.

Excessive absenteeism or tardiness.

Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
