Opportunity Overview

Handshake is looking for experienced civil and structural engineers to support AI research through flexible, part-time contract work. This is not a traditional job—you’ll draw on your hands-on industry experience to evaluate AI-generated content and provide feedback that helps AI reason like a practicing engineer.

This is an ongoing, project-based opportunity you can take on alongside your current role.

What You’ll Do

• Create expert-level engineering problems grounded in real design, modeling, estimating, and project work
• Review AI-generated responses for technical accuracy and practical feasibility
• Provide structured written feedback to help improve AI model performance
• Complete tasks at your own pace with no set schedule or minimum hour requirement

Qualifications

• Recent experience — Currently working as a civil or structural engineer, or have worked in the field within the past three years
• Degree — BS, MS, or PhD in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field
• Hands-on ownership — Experience personally producing models, calculations, quantities, or estimates that others use to build, price, or approve work
• Technical depth — Experience in fabrication-accurate modeling, code-based structural design, takeoff and estimating, or applied simulation
• Seniority matters less than directly owning the technical outputs you produce. PE or EIT credentials are preferred but not required.
• Based in Canada.
