Description
American Traveler is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with a minimum of 2 years of experience and Trauma Level I/II background for a night shift travel assignment at a Magnet-designated academic medical center in Madison, WI.
Details
- Inpatient respiratory therapy unit at a Magnet-designated academic teaching hospital and major referral center in Madison, WI
- Adult critical care and emergency department primary work settings; pediatric experience preferred
- Handles a wide range of respiratory conditions including ARDS, cystic fibrosis, fresh tracheostomy, COVID, and aspiration
- Provides advanced ventilator management including BiPAP, CPAP, IMV, high-pressure alarm troubleshooting, and weaning protocols
- Administers inhaled medications including Nitric Oxide (iNO), inhaled Flolan, Racemic Epinephrine, Tobramycin, and a full range of bronchodilators and inhaled steroids
- Performs and assists with airway management including intubation assist, extubation, tracheostomy care, suctioning, and nasal/oral airway placement
- Conducts arterial blood gas (ABG) draws and interpretation, chest physiotherapy (including vest CPT), and pulmonary hygiene
- Epic EMR experience required
- Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, primary hours 19:00–07:30; additional shift patterns include 23:00–07:30 and 15:00–23:30
- Every other weekend rotation required
- One on-call shift required per 6-week scheduling period
- Holiday coverage required
- Floating required as needed
Requirements
- RRT credential (NBRC) required; CRT accepted per facility review
- WI Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license required; pending license at time of consideration is accepted
- BLS required — American Heart Association (AHA) only
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a staff respiratory therapist
- Graduation from a COARC-accredited Respiratory Therapy program required
- Trauma Level I and Trauma Level II experience required
- Travel experience required, though exceptions may be considered based on overall experience level
- Epic EMR experience required
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
- License required if applicable
Additional Information
- Magnet-designated facility ranked as Wisconsin's #1 hospital and recognized as a leading national teaching institution and referral center
- Pediatric and adult experience preferred; pediatric skills including neonatal/pediatric CPAP/BiPAP are a plus
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- A pass/fail telemetry exam is required prior to start and must be completed within a maximum of three attempts
- Adult telemetry exam requires 100% identification of lethal rhythms (V-fib, V-tach, asystole), no incorrect answers on 3rd degree heart block questions, and a passing score of 80% or higher
- Pediatric telemetry exam requires identification of V-fib, V-tach, asystole, and sinus bradycardia with a passing score of 80% or higher
- If the second attempt is failed, a certificate of completion of a cardiac interpretation review course must be submitted before a third attempt is granted; failure to pass after three attempts will result in assignment cancellation
- Parking permit available through UW Transportation; bus, park-and-ride, and private parking options are also available
