We are seeking our next <b>Police Officer </b>who will be all-in on our mission and who provides law enforcement, safety, and security services to the Amarillo College community through proactive patrol, timely response to calls for service, and enforcement of applicable laws and College policies. The officer engages in community-oriented policing by building positive relationships with students, faculty, and staff while supporting a safe and secure campus environment. The officer conducts investigations, prepares reports, and collaborates with internal departments and external agencies to ensure effective response to incidents, emergencies, and public safety needs.</p></div>

<div><p><b>EDUCATION</b><b>:</b><br>
<b>Required:</b> High School Diploma or GED and completion of a Basic Law Enforcement Academy and Certified Texas Peace Officer.<br>

<b>Preferred:</b> Associate&rsquo;s Degree in Criminal Justice, Public Safety, or related field.<br>
<br>
<b>EXPERIENCE</b><b>:</b><br>
<b>Required: </b>One (1) year of full-time law enforcement experience as a licensed peace officer.<br>
<br>
<b>Preferred:</b> Two (2) or more years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience, preferably in a campus or community policing environment.<br>
<br>
<b>CERTIFICATES/LICENSES</b><b>:</b><br>
<b>Required:</b> Valid Texas Driver&rsquo;s License with safe driving record and Current Texas Peace Officer License in good standing, issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).</p></div>
<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Job Duties &amp; Responsibilities</b></h2></div>
<p></p><div><ul><li>Respond promptly and professionally to calls for service, providing appropriate law enforcement, safety, and customer service responses.</li><li>
Conduct proactive, high-visibility patrols by vehicle, bicycle, and on foot to deter crime, identify safety concerns, and maintain a secure campus environment.</li><li>
Engage in community-oriented policing by building positive relationships with students, faculty, and staff through daily interactions and participation in campus events.</li><li>
Enforce federal, state, and local laws, as well as College policies, including traffic and parking regulations.</li><li>
Investigate incidents by gathering evidence, interviewing involved parties, and preparing clear, accurate, and comprehensive reports.</li><li>
Make lawful arrests as necessary, file appropriate charges, and complete all required legal and departmental documentation.</li><li>
Provide service-oriented assistance, including parking enforcement, vehicle lockouts, jump-starts, and safety escorts.</li><li>
Conduct routine security checks of campus buildings and facilities, identifying and reporting safety, security, or maintenance concerns.</li><li>
Operate within the Communications Center as needed, providing dispatch and radio communication support.</li><li>
Safely operate, maintain, and ensure accountability of assigned equipment and departmental resources.</li><li>
Support and participate in campus safety education, prevention programs, and outreach initiatives.</li><li>
Collaborate with internal departments, behavioral intervention teams, mental health resources, and external law enforcement agencies to support coordinated response efforts.</li><li>
Remain available for emergency recall, special events, and critical incidents, including on-call responsibilities as assigned.</li><li>
Participate in ongoing training, certification requirements, performance evaluations, and professional development activities.</li><li>
Perform other work-related duties as required.</li><li>

Salary: </b>Amarillo College follows a lag pay strategy, with starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade, rarely reaching the maximum to support long-term growth within each position.<br>
<br>
Pay grade<b> 12</b> Amarillo College Pay Grades (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).<br>
<br>
<b>Physical Demands:</b> While performing the duties of this job, the Amarillo College Police Officer must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, including foot and bicycle patrols. The position requires the ability to run short distances, climb stairs, crouch, bend, stoop, kneel, and occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or maneuver individuals and equipment weighing up to one-hundred (100) pounds. Officers must frequently use their hands and fingers to operate communication equipment, vehicles, firearms, and other law enforcement tools. Normal vision (corrected or uncorrected), hearing, and overall physical stamina are required to quickly detect, assess, and respond to incidents. The role also demands the physical capability to restrain or detain individuals safely in accordance with departmental procedures and training.<br>
<br>
<b>Working Conditions:</b> Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events as necessary). The nature of police work involves a high degree of risk and can involve exposure to hazards such as criminal activity, emergency response situations, traffic stops, and a wide variety of calls for service. Officers may be recalled for duty during emergencies and are expected to remain calm and effective in high-stress circumstances.<br>
<br>
<b>Work Environment:</b> The work environment may involve exposure to physical hazards and requires strict adherence to safety protocols. Officers may encounter extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, and unpleasant odors. Duties are performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings, including during inclement weather and emergency conditions.</div><p></p>

We are seeking our next<b> Police Captain</b> who will be all-in on our mission and who will be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the day-to-day administration of the Campus Police Department and for supervising the day-to-day activities of assigned officers. This position provides for the safety and welfare of all students, faculty, staff and visitors as well as maintaining peace and order on the properties of Amarillo College.</p></div>

<b>Required:</b> Associate&rsquo;s Degree in Criminal Justice or related field, and Completion of Basic Law Enforcement Academy.<br>

<b>Physical Demands:</b> While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices, buildings, campuses and other various locations. Requires the ability to jump, reach above the head, lift and lower, walk up and down stairs quickly, stoop, crouch, kneel, and crawl. Requires the ability to demonstrate use of arms, hands, and legs and occasionally exert physical effort for the purpose of self-defense as required.<br>
May be required to walk or stand for long periods of time and work in various/uncomfortable climatic temperatures. Required to remain awake, alert and visually observant at all times. Required to maintain the ability to lift, push, pull and carry heavy objects as required (i.e. maneuver objects in excess of 200 pounds with assistance of others and/or appropriate equipment.)<br>

<b>Working Conditions:</b> The nature of police work involves a high degree of risk and exposure to various hazards to include criminal offenses, emergency response, traffic stops, and a diversity of calls for service. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events as necessary.) Timely and regular attendance for all employees is required to ensure adequate staffing, positive employee morale, and to meet expected productivity standards throughout the organization. Employees will be held accountable for adhering to their workplace schedules.<br>

<b>Work Environment: </b>This position operates in a professional office environment, and in various campus locations and facilities outside of the office. Requires work with little to no supervision. Environment may include noisy or frequent interruptions and from vehicle locations. Self-sufficiency is critical.</div><p></p>
