This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next <b>Part-Time Reader/Scribe Support Specialist</b> who will be all-in on our mission and who is responsible for delivering high-quality student service by supporting both office operations and providing direct assistance in classroom and testing environments. The individual in this role will serve as a vital point of support for students with disabilities by reading aloud exam questions or course materials, accurately recording responses, and taking notes to ensure full access to instruction. In addition, the position provides general clerical and administrative support, including scheduling, data entry, and student check-in, to help maintain efficient office operations.</p></div>
<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Qualifications</b></h2></div>
<div><p><b>EDUCATION</b><br>
<b>Required:</b> High School Diploma or GED and completion of at least one (1) year of successful college coursework.<br>
<br>
<b>Preferred: </b>Associate&rsquo;s Degree or higher.<br>
<br>
<b>EXPERIENCE</b><br>
<b>Required: </b>One (1) or more years of work experience in clerical, administrative, customer service, or student service roles.<br>
<br>
<b>Preferred:</b> Two (2) or more years of clerical, administrative, or customer service experience. Prior experience working with individuals with disabilities in an educational or support setting.</p></div>
<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Job Duties &amp; Responsibilities</b></h2></div>
<p></p><div><ul><li>Serve as a reader by reading aloud exam questions, instructions, or course materials in testing or classroom settings.</li><li>
Serve as a scribe by accurately writing, typing, or recording student responses during exams or class activities.</li><li>
Serve as a notetaker by accurately capturing lecture or lab content in written or typed form.</li><li>
Convert instructional materials into accessible formats when needed to ensure equal access.</li><li>
Support students professionally and discreetly, maintaining strict confidentiality at all times.</li><li>
Assist with routine clerical duties, including data entry, filing, document preparation, and correspondence.</li><li>
Provide general office support, including scheduling, student check-in, and front-line service.</li><li>
Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient office workflow and timely completion of tasks.</li><li>
Maintain flexibility to work across both office and classroom/testing environments.</li><li>
Participate in required trainings and professional development to enhance skills and remain current with evolving technologies.</li><li>
Perform other work-related duties as required</li><li>

Salary: </b>Amarillo College follows a lag pay strategy, with starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade, rarely reaching the maximum to support long-term growth within each position.<br>
<br>
Pay grade <b>6</b> Amarillo College Pay Grades (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).<br>
<br>
<b>Physical Demands:</b> While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.<br>
<br>
<b>Working Conditions:</b> Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.)<br>
<br>
<b>Work Environment:</b> This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets) and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Colleague, and various other educational applications. Work may also be performed outside of the office and with little to no supervision.</div><p></p>

This position is part-time on an as needed basis, dependent on student needs.</p></div>

<p></p><div><ul><li>Attend trainings and professional development opportunities to improve skills and stay up-to-date with evolving technologies.</li><li>
Identify and respond to students&rsquo; needs relating to eligibility for services.</li><li>
Assist visually-impaired students with coursework by reading and transcribing text.</li><li>
Create written summaries for textbooks and coursework to support students&rsquo; comprehension.</li><li>
Use assistive technologies, such as optical character recognition and screen-reading software, to help students&rsquo; access digital materials.</li><li>
Provide support in testing situations, including reading test questions aloud and transcribing student responses.</li><li>
Complete performance assessments/evaluations as assigned.</li><li>
Read paper and computer tests accurately and clearly, with good pronunciation.</li><li>
Record notes accurately during class lectures and/or labs.</li><li>
Assist in the implementation of student accommodations.</li><li>
Facilitate the student&rsquo;s ability to participate in a course of study, without assisting with or completing the work associated with the course.</li><li>
Perform other work-related duties as required.</li><li>
