Job Description: Supply Chain Manager &ndash; OEM Battery ManufacturingLocation: Nagpur Department: Supply Chain &amp; Operations Experience: Experience is mandatory in EV Automotive/Renewabe Energy Reports To: Head &ndash; Operations / Plant Head Industry: OEM &ndash; Battery Manufacturing (Li-ion / Lead-acid / Industrial Batteries)Role SummaryThe Supply Chain Manager is responsible for end-to-end supply chain operations&mdash;from procurement of critical raw materials (lead, lithium cells, separators, electrolytes, casings) to production planning, vendor management, logistics, and distribution. The role ensures uninterrupted production, cost efficiency, compliance with safety/environmental norms, and on-time delivery to OEM and Renewable energy systems clients and distributors.Key Responsibilities1. Procurement &amp; Vendor Management<ul><li>Develop and manage local and global suppliers for raw materials, components, and packaging.</li><li>Ensure procurement of lead, lithium cells, BMS components, plates, grids, separators, electrolytes, plastics, and hardware as per material specifications.</li><li>Negotiate contracts, pricing, credit terms, and SLAs to ensure cost efficiency.</li><li>Identify alternate suppliers to reduce single-source dependency.</li><li>Monitor supplier performance: quality, delivery timelines, compliance, and corrective actions.</li></ul>2. Inventory &amp; Material Planning<ul><li>Plan raw materials, WIP, and finished goods inventory based on sales forecasts and production schedules.</li><li>Monitor safety stock levels and optimize reorder points for critical materials.</li><li>Implement inventory control techniques (ABC analysis, min-max, JIT, FIFO).</li><li>Prevent shortages, overstocking, and inventory write-offs.</li></ul>3. Production Planning &amp; Control (PPC)<ul><li>Create daily/weekly/monthly production plans aligned with customer orders and plant capacity.</li><li>Ensure availability of materials as per BOM and production timelines.</li><li>Collaborate with QA, Production, and Sales to align demand and supply.</li><li>Monitor adherence to the production plan and highlight bottlenecks.</li></ul>4. Logistics, Warehousing &amp; Distribution<ul><li>Oversee inbound logistics: transportation of hazardous materials (where applicable), customs clearance for imported components.</li><li>Manage outbound logistics to OEM clients, dealers, and warehouses.</li><li>Optimize transportation costs through route planning, freight negotiation, and load optimization.</li><li>Ensure warehouse process excellence&mdash;binning, stacking, safety, cycle counting, dispatch planning.</li></ul>5. Compliance &amp; Safety<ul><li>Ensure compliance with BIS, ARAI, DGFT, GST, hazardous material handling, and battery manufacturing regulations.</li><li>Maintain documentation for audits&mdash;vendor audits, safety audits, ISO, environmental audits (Pollution Control Board).</li><li>Ensure safety protocols for handling chemicals, lithium cells, and lead-based materials.</li></ul>6. Cost Optimization &amp; Process Improvement<ul><li>Reduce supply chain costs through continuous improvement, process automation, and waste elimination.</li><li>Conduct cost-benefit analysis for make-vs-buy decisions.</li><li>Optimize working capital requirements through inventory planning and efficient cash-to-cash cycle.</li><li>Implement Lean / Kaizen in supply chain operations.</li></ul>7. Cross-Functional Collaboration<ul><li>Work closely with R&amp;D for new product introduction and BoM finalization.</li><li>Align with Sales for demand forecasting and delivery commitments.</li><li>Partner with Finance for budgeting, cost control, and commercial negotiations.</li></ul>Required Qualifications &amp; SkillsEducation<ul><li>BE / B.Tech in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial Engineering OR</li><li>MBA in Supply Chain / Operations preferred.</li></ul>Experience<ul><li>7&ndash;12 years of experience in Supply Chain, Procurement, or Operations.</li><li>Minimum 3&ndash;5 years in battery manufacturing (Li-ion or Lead-acid) or related industries (automotive, electronics, energy storage).</li><li>Experience managing hazardous materials and import logistics is a strong advantage.</li></ul>Technical Skills<ul><li>Strong knowledge of battery components and raw materials.</li><li>Proficiency in SAP / ERP systems (MM, PP, SCM modules).</li><li>Understanding of customs, GST, logistics documentation.</li><li>Strong data analysis and planning tools (Excel, MRP, forecasting models).</li></ul>Soft Skills<ul><li>Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.</li><li>Leadership and team management.</li><li>Problem-solving and decision-making.</li><li>Collaboration and cross-functional communication.</li><li>Ability to work in fast-paced manufacturing environments.</li></ul>Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)<ul><li>Material availability &amp; OTIF (On-Time In-Full) deliveries.</li><li>Inventory turnover &amp; working capital efficiency.</li><li>Logistics cost per unit.</li><li>Supplier quality &amp; delivery performance.</li><li>Production schedule adherence.</li><li>Cost reduction initiatives.</li><li>Lead time reduction and process improvement metrics.</li></ul>Why This Role is CriticalAs an OEM battery manufacturer and Renewable energy systems, efficiency, cost control, and timely delivery are essential for competitive advantage. This role demands strong manufacturing HR expertise, hands-on people management, and the ability to partner with leadership to drive organizational growth and operational efficiency.Key Responsibilities- 1. Talent Acquisition &amp; Workforce Planning<ul><li>Manage recruitment for white-collar, blue-collar, and technical plant roles (operators, line supervisors, QA, R&amp;D, maintenance, logistics, etc.).</li><li>Build strong hiring pipelines through ITI colleges, business schools, IITs, Technical colleges, skill centers, contract staffing vendors, apprenticeship programs and internships.</li><li>Forecast manpower needs based on production plans, product launches, operations and shift schedules.</li><li>Reduce attrition and overtime dependency through strategic staffing plans.</li></ul>2. HR Operations &amp; Employee Life Cycle Management<ul><li>Oversee onboarding, induction, documentation, and HRIS updates.</li><li>Manage attendance, shift rosters, OT, leave, and payroll inputs in coordination with Finance.</li><li>Implement and monitor Factory Standing Orders, employee discipline, and attendance norms.</li><li>Drive separation procedures&mdash;notice periods, exit documentation, F&amp;F, recovery, and asset returns.</li></ul>3. Industrial Relations &amp; Compliance<ul><li>Ensure adherence to all statutory compliances (Factories Act, ESIC, PF, Gratuity, CLRA, Maternity Act, PoSH, etc.).</li><li>Handle labour inspections, factory audits, and statutory filings.</li><li>Maintain relationships with contractors, labour agencies, and local authorities.</li><li>Resolve grievances, conduct domestic inquiries, and maintain harmonious industrial relations at all levels.</li><li>Ensure compliance with contract labour management, wages, and statutory registers.</li></ul>4. Performance Management &amp; Training<ul><li>Lead annual appraisal cycles, goal setting, competency mapping, and performance reviews.</li><li>Identify skill gaps and run training interventions with line managers (safety, quality, technical skills, leadership).</li><li>Establish training calendars for plant and corporate teams.</li><li>Promote career paths, internal mobility, and succession planning.</li></ul>5. Employee Engagement &amp; Culture Building<ul><li>Drive employee engagement activities across shifts (sports, welfare, communication forums).</li><li>Conduct skip-level meetings, pulse surveys, and feedback mechanisms.</li><li>Promote a culture of safety, discipline, and continuous improvement.</li><li>Foster collaboration between corporate and plant teams.</li></ul>6. HR Analytics &amp; Reporting<ul><li>Track and publish HR dashboards&mdash;attrition, absenteeism, overtime cost, productivity, hiring metrics, training hours, and engagement scores.</li><li>Use analytics to identify patterns and drive data-driven decision making.</li></ul>7. Health, Safety &amp; Welfare<ul><li>Partner with EHS (Environment, Health and Safety) teams to promote safety norms and compliance.</li><li>Ensure medical check-ups, safety training, and welfare programs for employees.</li><li>Manage canteen, transportation, PPE issuance, uniform distribution, and welfare committees.</li></ul>8.
