Patent Specialist/EngineerDescriptions:AVEK IP, headquartered in Overland Park, KS, is seeking a Mandarin speaking and reading STEM graduate for an entry level patent specialist/engineer role within the firm. No prior patent prosecution experience is required.Responsibilities:<ul><li>Drafting and prosecuting patent applications</li><li>Monitoring patent dockets and meeting various docket deadlines</li><li>Coordinating with clients abroad</li><li>Handling other IP-related tasks assigned by partners and colleague attorneys within the firm</li></ul>Qualifications MUST HAVES:<ul><li>B.S. in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) field</li><li>Ability to take and pass the USPTO patent bar exam (AVEK IP will sponsor exam eligibility and cost)</li><li>Willingness to relocate one of the listed work locations</li><li>Oral and written communication skills in both English and Chinese &ndash; especially the ability to read and understand Chinese technical literature (patents, research papers, contracts, etc.)</li><li>Ability to quickly comprehend technologies in various fields (especially consumer products and medical devices)</li><li>Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment and to communicate with clients in Chinese time zones</li></ul>Qualifications PREFERED<ul><li>Advanced degree (master or Ph.D.) in a STEM field</li><li>USPTO bar exam passage or USPTO bar registration</li></ul>Work Locations:<ul><li>Overland Park, KS; Dallas-Fort Worth Area, TX</li></ul>Job Type:<ul><li>Full time, part-time, contract</li></ul>Candidates with the availability to work a trial period on a contract basis may also be given priority.
