Patent Specialist/Engineer

Descriptions:

AVEK IP, headquartered in Overland Park, KS, is seeking a Mandarin speaking and reading STEM graduate for an entry level patent specialist/engineer role within the firm. No prior patent prosecution experience is required.

Responsibilities:

• Drafting and prosecuting patent applications
• Monitoring patent dockets and meeting various docket deadlines
• Coordinating with clients abroad
• Handling other IP-related tasks assigned by partners and colleague attorneys within the firm

Qualifications MUST HAVES:

• B.S. in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) field
• Ability to take and pass the USPTO patent bar exam (AVEK IP will sponsor exam eligibility and cost)
• Willingness to relocate one of the listed work locations
• Oral and written communication skills in both English and Chinese – especially the ability to read and understand Chinese technical literature (patents, research papers, contracts, etc.)
• Ability to quickly comprehend technologies in various fields (especially consumer products and medical devices)
• Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment and to communicate with clients in Chinese time zones

Qualifications PREFERED

• Advanced degree (master or Ph.D.) in a STEM field
• USPTO bar exam passage or USPTO bar registration

• Full time, part-time, contract
