We are committed to our core values and believe in nurturing an organizational culture that is built upon identifying and keeping top talent.Position Summary:The Paralegal is accountable for supporting the timely and accurate handling and processing of active litigation files and lawsuits from the time the files are assigned to Basham &amp; Scott, throughout the litigation, discovery, and trial processes. The Paralegal supports the firm&rsquo;s litigation attorneys and is responsible for managing deadlines and tasks to ensure efficient processing. The Paralegal also communicates tactfully and effectively with colleagues, attorneys, courts, clients, and other stakeholders.Key Outcomes:<ul><li>Supports the processing and disposition of active litigation files by:</li><li>Managing the litigation process and effective file management</li><li>Collecting and processing necessary documentation; supporting management of active claims</li><li>Assisting in drafting of demands, complaints, correspondence, and other pleadings</li><li>Filing suit and managing service on defendants</li><li>Managing the attorney calendar to ensure deadlines are met</li><li>Drafting discovery requests and responses</li><li>Sending Notices of Claim and other required notices to insureds, defendants, opposing counsel, adjusters, etc.</li><li>Assisting in scheduling and preparing for mediation, deposition, hearings, etc.</li><li>Assisting with all phases of trial preparation</li><li>Researching addresses, tracking service of process, and communicating with process servers</li><li>Support post judgment recovery processes by:</li><li>Requesting and recording Abstracts of Judgment and serving Writs of Execution</li><li>Interfacing with state agencies to suspend driving licenses/registration and initiate other recovery actions.</li><li>Scheduling and processing of post-judgment disclosure hearings</li></ul>Education/Experience:&middot; Paralegal/Legal Assistant degree or certificate, and/or Associates Degree required, or educational equivalent&middot; Minimum of 2 years experience at a law firm/legal environment focusing on litigation&middot; Or equivalent combination of training, experience and educationSkills/Knowledge/Competencies (Behaviors):<ul><li>Strong technical skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook; prior database experience preferred</li><li>Aptitude and ability to learn legal industry database</li><li>Highly organized, with ability to prioritize, organize, and process a large volume of incoming data</li><li>Willing to support others and work collaboratively and collegially across the organization</li><li>Ability to interface with multiple levels, including attorneys, CEO, as well as peers</li><li>Demonstrated ability to communicate with tact and respect while handling challenging conversations with courts, defendants, opposing attorneys, and insurance adjusters</li><li>Proven problem solving/critical thinking</li><li>Ability to communicate technical information in a clear and succinct manner</li><li>Readily adaptable to new/different/challenging assignments</li><li>Exceptional integrity and work ethic</li><li>Ability to function in a fast paced environment</li></ul>Requirements:<ul><li>Extended periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer</li><li>In Office Physical Presence</li><li>Ability to pass a background check</li></ul>Experience:<ul><li>Firm/Legal: 2 years (Required)</li><li>Assisting a supervisor: 2 years (Required)</li></ul>Job Type: Full-timePay: From $25.00 per hourBenefits:<ul><li>401(k)</li><li>401(k) matching</li><li>Dental insurance</li><li>Disability insurance</li><li>Flexible schedule</li><li>Free parking</li><li>Health insurance</li><li>Health savings account</li><li>Life insurance</li><li>Paid sick time</li><li>Paid time off</li><li>Parental leave</li><li>Professional development assistance</li><li>Profit sharing</li><li>Vision insurance</li><li>Work from home</li></ul>Work Location: In person
