Position OverviewRole: Mechanical Design Engineer We&rsquo;re looking for a creative and committed Mechanical Design Engineer who is passionate about custom details, thrives in problem-solving, and enjoys working on unique, multi-faceted projects from concept through installation.You&rsquo;ll collaborate closely with designers, engineers, fabricators, and project managers to transform concepts into fully engineered, buildable solutions while balancing design intent, fabrication efficiency, and client expectations.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Leadership &amp; Project Ownership<ul><li>Lead projects from concept to final installation, managing all engineering phases.</li><li>Take full ownership of design intent, technical execution, and project deliverables.</li><li>Balance speed, quality, and adaptability while working in a high-change, high-urgency environment.</li></ul>Design &amp; Engineering<ul><li>Convert SketchUp/AutoCAD design concepts into manufacturing-ready shop drawings using SolidWorks.</li><li>Develop 3D models, sub-assembly breakdowns, bills of materials, and CNC cut files.</li><li>Calculate static and dynamic loads to ensure structural integrity.</li><li>Design jigs, templates, and fixtures to streamline fabrication.</li></ul>Project Estimation &amp; Planning<ul><li>Estimate material and hardware needs early in design to track anticipated costs.</li><li>Assist in defining fabrication methods and creating installation plans.</li><li>Source materials, components, and specialty hardware for custom builds.</li></ul>Collaboration &amp; Coordination<ul><li>Work closely with designers, project engineers, fabricators, purchasing, and vendors to ensure alignment on project goals.</li><li>Participate in design pass-off reviews to eliminate waste and improve build efficiency.</li><li>Support teammates when needed and contribute to a collaborative, team-first culture.</li></ul>Problem-Solving &amp; Quality Assurance<ul><li>Redline shop drawings and troubleshoot issues during fabrication and installation.</li><li>Proactively identify roadblocks, delays, and design conflicts and communicate solutions early.</li><li>Maintain a strong sense of urgency while delivering high-quality, precision-driven work.</li></ul>QualificationsRequired<ul><li>Associate&rsquo;s Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.</li><li>4+ years of mechanical design experience using SolidWorks.</li><li>Knowledge of fabrication methods, processes, and materials.</li><li>Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings.</li><li>Strong verbal and written communication skills.</li><li>Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.</li><li>Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.</li></ul>Preferred<ul><li>Experience with sheet metal and weldment design.</li><li>Familiarity with basic electrical design, controls, and programming.</li><li>Working knowledge of building codes and permitting requirements.</li><li>Experience in custom fabrication, specialty installations, and multi-disciplinary projects.</li></ul>Software Proficiency<ul><li>Required: SolidWorks, nesting software, ERP/project management systems.</li><li>Preferred: Revit, SketchUp, AutoCAD.</li></ul>Additional Details<ul><li>Position Type: Full-time, on-site.</li><li>Location: Downtown San Diego.</li><li>Salary Range: $70,000 &ndash; $95,000 annually, based on experience.</li><li>Relocation assistance may be available</li><li>Culture: Collaborative, fast-paced, and hands-on.</li><li>Bonus points if you&rsquo;re an animal lover &mdash; we&rsquo;re a pet-friendly studio!</li></ul>Job Type: Full-timePay: $70,000.00 - $95,000.00 per yearBenefits:<ul><li>Dental insurance</li><li>Health insurance</li><li>Paid time off</li><li>Vision insurance</li></ul>Application Question(s):<ul><li>What is the most important element of any design?</li><li>What are your favorite hobbies?</li><li>What is your desired salary?</li></ul>Work Location: In person
