Job Summary
The City of Olathe is hiring one Fleet Maintenance Technician for our Heavy Duty / Diesel Equipment team. This position may be filled at Technician Level I, II, III, or IV, level, depending on the selected candidate&rsquo;s verified experience, certifications, and overall qualifications.
Candidates who do not meet the requirements for a higher-level designation may still be considered for placement at the appropriate technician level.
Schedule: Monday&ndash;Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
What You&rsquo;ll Do
<ul><li>Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, brake, suspension, and drivetrain issues</li><li>Perform preventive maintenance on heavy-duty trucks and related equipment to keep City fleet operations safe and reliable</li><li>Complete repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, air brake systems, PTO systems, and hydraulic components</li><li>Perform equipment installation, fabrication, welding, and acetylene cutting as needed</li><li>Maintain accurate service and repair records</li><li>Respond to emergency and after-hours service needs when required</li><li>Support maintenance of Police and Fire equipment as assigned</li></ul>

</h2><ul><li>Pay Range: $21.75&ndash;$24.97 per hour depending on qualifications</li><li>
Minimum Experience: 2 years of relevant automotive, diesel, fleet, or equipment maintenance experience</li><li>
Required Certification at Hire: A/C refrigerant recovery and recycling certification</li></ul><h2 class="jobSectionHeader">
Fleet Maintenance Technician II</h2><ul><li>
Pay Range: $23.75&ndash;$26.95 per hour depending on qualifications</li><li>
Minimum Experience: 3 years of relevant automotive, diesel, fleet, or equipment maintenance experience</li><li>
Required Certifications at Hire:<ul><li>
A/C refrigerant recovery and recycling certification</li><li>
ASE Brakes</li><li>
ASE Suspension/Steering</li><li>
One additional ASE or EVT certification</li></ul></li></ul><h2 class="jobSectionHeader">
Fleet Maintenance Technician III
</h2><ul><li>Pay Range: $25.50&ndash;$29.72 per hour depending on qualifications</li><li>
Minimum Experience: 6 years of relevant automotive, diesel, fleet, or equipment maintenance experience</li><li>
Required Certifications at Hire:<ul><li>
A/C refrigerant recovery and recycling certification</li><li>
Three ASE certifications total, including:</li><li>
ASE Brakes</li><li>
ASE Suspension/Steering</li><li>
One additional ASE certification</li></ul></li><li>
EVT F1 or F2, plus F3 and F4, may be required based on assignment or advanced placement level</li></ul><h2 class="jobSectionHeader">
Fleet Maintenance Technician IV
</h2><ul><li>Pay Range: $28.00&ndash;$33.20 per hour depending on qualifications</li><li>
Minimum Experience: 10 years of relevant automotive, diesel, fleet, or equipment maintenance experience</li><li>
Required Certifications at Hire:</li><li>
A/C refrigerant recovery and recycling certification</li><li>
ASE Master Mechanic credentials</li><li>
Additional EVT certifications or assignment-specific training may be required based on assignment</li></ul><h2 class="jobSectionHeader">
Additional Requirements for All Levels
</h2><ul><li>High school diploma or equivalent</li><li>
Valid driver&rsquo;s license with favorable driving record</li><li>
Ability to obtain a Kansas Class B CDL with air brake and tanker endorsements within 6 months of hire.</li><li>
The City of Olathe offers a free CDL training program that can be completed during the first 6 months of employment.</li></ul><h2 class="jobSectionHeader">
Preferred Qualifications

The Fleet Maintenance Technician uses their technical expertise to perform complex skilled maintenance, diagnostics and repairs to automotive, light, and medium duty trucks, and a wide variety of equipment such as but not limited to tractors and lawn mowers to ensure the vehicles and equipment operate safely and efficiently. This position is part of a four-level career progression of Fleet Maintenance Technician I, II, III and IV.
Key Responsibilities
<ul><li>Analyzes vehicle and equipment failures; determines causes, recommends and/or completes repair solutions including but not limited to engine, transmission, brake suspension, hydraulic and electric repairs using proper safety devices and procedures.</li><li>
Performs routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, and fluid checks to prevent breakdowns and extend the lifespan of vehicles and equipment.</li><li>
Performs equipment installation, fabrication, welding, and acetylene cutting for all types of vehicles and equipment.</li><li>
Responds to emergency repairs and service calls on vehicles and equipment including afterhours calls.</li><li>
Maintains accurate and detailed records; reports on repairs performed, equipment usage and condition.</li></ul>
Qualifications
Experience: A minimum of three years of training and/or experience in Automotive and Equipment Maintenance and repair is required. Hydraulic experience preferred.
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent supplemented with course work in automotive technology is required. Trade school is preferred.
Licenses &amp; Certifications: A valid driver&rsquo;s license with favorable driving record is required. A class B commercial driver&rsquo;s license with air brake endorsement is required within 6 months of employment.
Environmental or Physical Demands: May encounter moderate noise levels from vehicles, equipment, instruments, or ventilation systems.</div>
