Central Library Information Services includes the following public service units: Children and Teen Services, Readers Advisory Services, Business Science, and Technology, Humanities, and the Quick Information Center. The Supervising Librarian position supervises the Readers Advisory Services (RAS) team of librarians and library associates and is responsible for managing operations, performing higher-level administrative duties, and providing direct services at Central Library information desks. This is an entry-level library management position that reports to the Information Services Manager, works collaboratively with the Information Services management team to support daily operations, and may supervise other staff as assigned, based on public service needs. Readers Advisory Services (RAS) operates on Level 3, one of the Library’s primary public entry floors. This high-traffic area includes the Living Room seating area and co-located services such as Teen Services, Circulation, the FriendShop, and a public coffee cart. The Supervising Librarian provides real-time operational leadership within this dynamic service environment. Successful candidates for this position will have demonstrated mastery of the essential functions of a public services Librarian. These include proficiency in providing professional library services including readers’ advisory for adult patrons; assuming a leadership role when required including taking charge of the public services environment to effectively respond to service, safety, and operational issues; and contributing to and participating in the Library’s learning and strategic service delivery environment. <br><b>Community Engagement and Partnerships:</b> Understand the role of community engagement in identifying community needs and goals. In coordination with the Information Services Manager and Assistant Managing Librarians, support direct reports in developing relevant and responsive programs, services, and content that meet those needs, building and maintaining formal and informal relationships to realize outcomes that further community and Library goals. Understand the importance of bringing Library resources to where people are, both inside the library and spaces in the community. Supervision: Provide a variety of supervisory activities designed to facilitate the effective and efficient operation of the Central Library Readers Advisory Services (RAS) unit within the Central Library. Participate in short- and long-range planning, staff development, resource allocation, and service delivery planning activities. Organize and coordinate the work of others; monitor and evaluate work performance; and oversee the development of individual work plans of staff in the department. Hire and train staff. Secure appropriate administrative guidance and recommend, develop, and implement performance improvement activities; conduct performance appraisals; develop corrective action plans; and assist with disciplinary actions. Conduct coaching and training for staff on key operation functions, including circulation, as appropriate and as needed. The Power Supply Business Unit at Seattle City Light is seeking a Senior Manager to provide management and leadership direction to the Power Operations &amp; Marketing (POM) unit. The role is responsible for the strategic planning, operational direction, and management of the wholesale energy market functions for the utility&rsquo;s substantial energy portfolio, including energy trading, market systems development and implementation, wholesale market analysis and risk management. Wholesale energy trading represents a significant aspect of the utility&rsquo;s financial picture. This Executive position will establish goals and objectives for this crucial team of staff and create a central and single point of contact and decision making for this critical organizational unit, which serves City Light&rsquo;s load, schedules its generation resources and power contracts, and sells and purchases energy, capacity, and transmission.</p><p>
This unit plans for and executes energy, capacity, and transmission trades and, exchanges, and other wholesale transactions. The unit is also responsible for tactical analysis and recommendations that support near term and long-range power needs, while remaining consistent with City Light&rsquo;s and the City of Seattle&rsquo;s stated policy objectives and direction. The role oversees all tactical aspects of the operation and is responsible for assuring that the POM team is equipped with the tools, technology, and training to perform its functions and deliver best-in-class results. This includes development and stewardship for business practices, data and analytics, risk management, operations, and other functions related to effective merchant activities.<br>

This role requires an experienced professional with advanced understanding of energy trading, market operations, organized markets, and power contract execution. </p><ul><li>Manage City Light&rsquo;s Power Generation and Supply portfolio to serve load reliably and, economically, and ensure environmental compliance, which includes a portfolio of transmission and power supply contracts that cost over $300 million annually.</li><li>
Oversee management of the utility&rsquo;s transmission portfolio and ensure that rights and contracts are effectively managed to optimize value and enable delivery of power purchases.</li><li>
Develop, seek approval, and execute risk management hedging strategies and plans consistent with City Light&rsquo;s Wholesale Energy Risk Management (WERM) Policies and Procedures. This includes direct input and assistance in revising this City Council approved policy to the Director of Risk Oversight, the Chief Financial Officer and the Power Supply Officer.</li><li>
Lead all trading and deal origination within City Light transactional authority as contained in the WERM Policy as approved by City Council.</li><li>
Manage regional coordination of City Light's reservoirs and generation maintenance outages.</li><li>
Responsible for the near-term forecasting of the surplus power revenues and for implementing the risk policy as it pertains to the sales of forward power.</li><li>
Oversee implementation and compliance with any resource adequacy programs such as the Western Resource Adequacy Program (WRAP).</li><li>
Provide strategic insight regarding organized markets and any expansion of participation in a day ahead or other organized market.</li><li>
Integrate new generating and storage resources into City Light&rsquo;s power supply portfolio, including intermittent resources such as wind or solar. Provide insight and support to resource acquisition efforts.</li><li>
Support and provide guidance on opportunities to leverage customer energy programs to decrease wholesale power costs.</li><li>
Plan for extreme weather events and coordinate internally and externally for safe operations of City Light generating resources during extreme weather.</li><li>

Seek new opportunities for City Light to maximize its New Wholesale &amp; Power Marketing Revenues; net wholesale energy revenue of approximately $40-$70 million annually.</li><li>
Lead the identification and execution of opportunities for non-energy Power Marketing revenues.</li><li>
Hire, direct, train and develop Power Marketing and related support staff and supervisors including Real Time, Pre-schedule and Forward marketing areas, Origination, operational and marketing support and analytics, and other related functions.</li><li>
Provide guidance, support, and recommendations to ensure that all tools, analysis, reports, and other supporting functions are available and optimized to enable best-in-class power marketing performance.</li></ul><p>

Prepare written evaluations and history of performance of marketing and operating plans.</li><li>
Coordinate generating unit maintenance schedules and activities with Operations, Engineering, and System Control Center for least cost operations.</li><li>
Report on fisheries flow compliance to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.</li><li>
Integrate Seattle's resources with Pacific Northwest Coordination Agreement, or successor activities.</li><li>
Project Skagit and, Pend Oreille (for Boundary project) runoff from snow survey and precipitation data.</li><li>

The Library's facilities include the 11-story Central Library in Downtown Seattle and 26 neighborhood branches located across Seattle. The Library&rsquo;s Security Team is based at the Central Library and provides safety and security services to all Library locations.</p><p><b>

About the Safety Officer Position</b></p><p>
Under the supervision of the Safety and Security Services Supervisor, the Safety Officer provides courteous and professional customer service to all Library patrons and staff, and strives to ensure that all Library locations are safe, accessible and welcoming. The Safety Officer operates with discretion and sound judgment in handling safety and security issues, using various security methods including de-escalation techniques, and the ability to prioritize the handling of multiple incidents, occasionally under potentially stressful or volatile circumstances. Please note that this position does not have the formal arrest authority of a sworn police officer.</p><p>
The Safety Officer receives and acts on information about security incidents from personal observation or from Library patrons or staff. Regular work actions include patrolling Library locations, warning patrons about Community Use Agreement violations, giving information to patrons and staff, explaining safety and security procedures, investigating incidents and disturbances, writing incident reports, suspending and/or removing patrons from Library facilities, and calling for police assistance.</p><p>
The Safety Officer documents security activities through verbal and written reports and communications which may be used for further administrative or police actions. The position may also communicate with police agencies and internal departments to assist with criminal matters occurring on Library property.</p><p>
The Safety Officer routinely engages in other safety and security-related activities, including monitoring and reporting on building safety and security, inspecting fire extinguishers, securing and processing lost and found articles, enforcing staff and visitor compliance with the access control program, assuring building security during non-public hours, and issuing building keys.</p><p>
The Safety Officer operates in accordance with all Library safety and security policies and procedures and provides input on the evaluation of Library safety and security needs, the maintenance of program standards, and the planning and implementation of program improvements.</p><p>
This position is currently scheduled to begin shifts at the Central Library, but must be able to begin shifts at other Library locations as needed.</p></div><p></p>

<p></p><div><p><b>Customer Service and Security Patrol:</b> Greet and interact with patrons and visitors as they enter the Library&rsquo;s buildings. Provide for the enforcement of Library security standards, policies and procedures by performing regular security patrols and monitoring of Library facilities as assigned in order to identify, prevent and respond to violations of the Library&rsquo;s Community Use Agreement, or other policies and procedures. Respond to medical emergencies. Support effective and timely responses to building emergencies and evacuations.</p><p><b>
Prevention activities:</b> Contribute to building safety and security by monitoring and reporting physical security and safety conditions. Provide input on procedures and methods to prevent property loss and damage. Work with Library staff to identify and resolve security problems and to keep the Safety and Security Services Supervisor informed of activities and/or problems.</p><p><b>
Security support activities:</b> Provide for timely and effective support of security operations and activities by obtaining, recording, and maintaining necessary documentation, reports, and records. Operate security and property-related programs such as lost and found materials, staff training, building access control, and security-monitoring activities.</p><p><b>
Administration activities:</b> Contribute to the administration of the safety and security program maintaining program standards, participating in necessary training, providing input on policies and procedures as requested, communicating clearly and effectively, and writing complete and accurate incident reports and other necessary documentation.</p></div><p></p>

At least one year of security experience</b> or experience performing similar duties in settings that require highly visible and sensitive public contact; require exercising conflict resolution and problem-solving skills; and require the ability to respond appropriately to critical incidents in an occupational setting. Experience operating in a security capacity in an employer-operated security department is preferred, but not required.</li></ul><p><b>
Educational and general skills requirements:</b></p><ul><li><b>
Education:</b> High School diploma or equivalent is required. Education, training and/or experience in social justice, criminal justice, public service, and/or hospitality are desired.</li><li><b>
Verbal skills:</b> Strong verbal communication skills are required. This includes the ability to communicate in English and to communicate with Library visitors for whom English is a second language. Knowledge of conversational Spanish, Asian languages, Eastern European languages or American Sign Language is a plus.</li><li><b>
Writing skills</b>: Strong written communication, including proofreading, editing and document production skills.
