Location: Indian Head, Accokeek, Bryans Road, or La Plata, MD (library-based sessions; flexible meeting location)Pay Rate: Negotiable, based on experience.Schedule:<ul><li>Mondays: 10:00 AM &ndash; 4:00 PM (flexible within this window)</li><li>OR Tuesdays: 2:00 PM &ndash; 5:00 PM Hours: 1 hour per week (with potential for growth)</li><li>Start Date: ASAP</li></ul>About the StudentWe are seeking a compassionate and experienced tutor to work with a 10-year-old student with autism who is nonverbal. The student is a visual and kinesthetic learner who benefits from movement-based, engaging, and hands-on instruction. He enjoys outdoor activities and responds well to creative, flexible teaching approaches.Responsibilities<ul><li>Provide individualized, in-person instruction tailored to the student&rsquo;s needs</li><li>Adapt lessons in real-time based on engagement, mood, and responsiveness</li><li>Incorporate movement, visuals, and interactive strategies into sessions</li><li>Create a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment</li><li>Use creative approaches (e.g., outdoor learning, games, sensory-based activities)</li></ul>Qualifications<ul><li>Experience working with students with autism, especially nonverbal learners</li><li>Strong background in special education or related field</li><li>Ability to implement visual and kinesthetic learning strategies</li><li>Patient, flexible, and able to build trust with students who communicate nonverbally</li></ul>Preferred (Not Required)<ul><li>Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL)</li><li>Familiarity with Waldorf or holistic teaching approaches</li><li>Experience with AAC tools or alternative communication methods</li></ul>Ideal Candidate<ul><li>Highly patient and observant</li><li>Creative and able to think &ldquo;outside the box&rdquo;</li><li>Comfortable with neurodivergent learners</li><li>Passionate about making learning meaningful and accessible</li></ul>How to ApplyPlease submit:<ul><li>A brief summary of your experience (especially with autism/nonverbal students)</li><li>Your availability</li><li>Any relevant certifications or specialized training</li></ul>Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hourExpected hours: 1.0 per weekBenefits:<ul><li>Flexible schedule</li></ul>Work Location: In person
