Job Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and energetic Insurance Accountant / Bookkeeper to manage in-house accounting for our retail insurance agency. In this role, you will be responsible for managing a wide range of accounting functions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards. Your expertise will support the organization&rsquo;s financial health through diligent bookkeeping, account reconciliation, and financial reporting using Applied Epic Software. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a growing organization while honing your skills in various accounting software and financial concepts.Responsibilities<ul><li>Perform data entry and maintain accurate records using accounting software including Applied Epic (insurance) and QuickBooks.</li><li>Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely payments and collections.</li><li>Manage monthly producer commissions &amp; carrier Direct Bill processing through Applied Epic.</li><li>Manage and execute daily invoicing, transaction processing and disbursements.</li><li>Reconcile bank statements, general ledger accounts, and balance sheets regularly to ensure accuracy.</li><li>Prepare journal entries, account analysis, and assist with month-end closing activities.</li><li>Support payroll management using systems like Insperity, ADP, Paychex, Kronos, or UltiPro, including payroll processing and tax compliance.</li><li>Assist with budgeting, financial analysis, and reporting to support organizational decision-making.</li><li>Understand and support accounting/bookkeeping principles according to both STAT &amp; GAAP as relevant for insurance industry and ensure compliance with governmental accounting standards where applicable.</li><li>Conduct account reconciliation procedures for accounts receivable and payable to maintain integrity of financial data.</li><li>Support internal controls and audit processes by providing detailed documentation and reports.</li></ul>Experience<ul><li>3 years of Applied Epic Accounting Experience preferred (1-2 years required)</li><li>Proven experience in corporate accounting or bookkeeping roles with a strong understanding of financial concepts.</li><li>Hands-on experience with Applied Epic, as well as accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, PeopleSoft, Ceridian, or similar platforms.</li><li>Knowledge of payroll systems including ADP, Paychex, Kronos or UltiPro is highly desirable.</li><li>Familiarity with insurance agency accounting and prior agency accounting experience is a plus.</li><li>Strong skills in data entry, double-entry bookkeeping, journal entries, and account reconciliation are essential.</li><li>Ability to analyze accounts accurately while maintaining high attention to detail in a fast-paced setting.</li><li>Excellent mathematical skills combined with a solid understanding of financial analysis techniques such as credit analysis and budget management.</li><li>This is an opportunity to join a fast-growing retail insurance agency in Texas on the accounting side as the department lead.
