Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and energetic Insurance Accountant / Bookkeeper to manage in-house accounting for our retail insurance agency. In this role, you will be responsible for managing a wide range of accounting functions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards. Your expertise will support the organization’s financial health through diligent bookkeeping, account reconciliation, and financial reporting using Applied Epic Software. Responsibilities
- Perform data entry and maintain accurate records using accounting software including Applied Epic (insurance) and QuickBooks.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely payments and collections.
- Manage monthly producer commissions & carrier Direct Bill processing through Applied Epic.
- Manage and execute daily invoicing, transaction processing and disbursements.
- Reconcile bank statements, general ledger accounts, and balance sheets regularly to ensure accuracy.
- Prepare journal entries, account analysis, and assist with month-end closing activities.
- Support payroll management using systems like Insperity, ADP, Paychex, Kronos, or UltiPro, including payroll processing and tax compliance.
- Assist with budgeting, financial analysis, and reporting to support organizational decision-making.
- Understand and support accounting/bookkeeping principles according to both STAT & GAAP as relevant for insurance industry and ensure compliance with governmental accounting standards where applicable.
- Conduct account reconciliation procedures for accounts receivable and payable to maintain integrity of financial data.
- Support internal controls and audit processes by providing detailed documentation and reports.
Experience
- 3 years of Applied Epic Accounting Experience preferred (1-2 years required)
- Proven experience in corporate accounting or bookkeeping roles with a strong understanding of financial concepts.
- Hands-on experience with Applied Epic, as well as accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, PeopleSoft, Ceridian, or similar platforms.
- Knowledge of payroll systems including ADP, Paychex, Kronos or UltiPro is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with insurance agency accounting and prior agency accounting experience is a plus.
- Strong skills in data entry, double-entry bookkeeping, journal entries, and account reconciliation are essential.
- Ability to analyze accounts accurately while maintaining high attention to detail in a fast-paced setting.
- Excellent mathematical skills combined with a solid understanding of financial analysis techniques such as credit analysis and budget management.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
