About our Client: Weston Herzog LLP is a dynamic and well-respected law firm specializing in insurance defense litigation, employment litigation, and commercial real estate disputes. Our primary practice areas include:<ul><li>
Insurance Defense Litigation: Premises liability, products liability, trucking accidents, intentional torts, negligent security, and pharmacy error.</li><li>
Employment Litigation: Defense of employers against claims of discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, and retaliation.</li><li>
Real Estate Law: Representation of property owners in commercial lease disputes, including unlawful detainer actions and collection of unpaid rent.</li></ul>
Job Overview:
Weston Herzog LLP is seeking a motivated Associate Attorney with 2-7 years of experience in insurance defense litigation. Trial experience is preferred but not required. The ideal candidate will have strong litigation skills, excellent legal writing abilities, and a proactive approach to case management.
Key Responsibilities:
The Associate Attorney will be responsible for handling all aspects of litigated cases. Core job duties include:
Case Management &amp; Litigation<ul><li>
Manage all phases of litigation, including case assessment, discovery, depositions motion practice, and trial preparation.</li><li>
Conduct thorough review of case-related records and provide written summaries.</li><li>
Review and summarize discovery responses; prepare meet and confer letters to opposing counsel regarding inadequate responses and/or improper objections.</li><li>
Draft, file, and serve pleadings, motions, and other legal documents in a timely manner.</li><li>
Take depositions of plaintiffs, percipient witnesses and experts.</li><li>
Communicate with expert witnesses, including retention, defense medical examinations and providing materials to expert for review.</li><li>
Represent corporate defendants and their employees at deposition</li><li>
Make court appearances and communicate case developments to clients.</li><li>
Engage in settlement negotiations and meet-and-confer efforts with opposing counsel.</li><li>
Prepare for and attend mediations.</li><li>
Assist in presenting evidence and witnesses at trials, hearings, arbitrations, and mediations.</li></ul>
Client Communication &amp; Reporting<ul><li>
Provide timely and appropriate legal advice to clients.</li><li>
Maintain regular communication with supervising partners and clients regarding case developments.</li><li>
Ensure all case files and records are accurately maintained.</li></ul>
Billing &amp; Time Management<ul><li>
Perform at least 150-160 hours of billable legal services per month (approximately 35-38 hours per week).</li><li>
Document and report all work performed on a daily basis.</li><li>
Enter all billable time into the firm&rsquo;s billing software and submit timesheets to the supervising partner daily.</li></ul>
Office &amp; Collaboration Requirements<ul><li>
Work on-site at the firm&rsquo;s office at least three days per week.</li><li>
Collaborate with other attorneys and staff to ensure efficient case management and client service.</li><li>
Complete assignments efficiently and manage caseload effectively.</li></ul>
Minimum Experience and Qualifications:<ul><li>
J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in the California State Bar.</li><li>
Minimum of two years of civil litigation experience, preferably in insurance defense.</li><li>
Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.</li><li>
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).</li><li>
Ability to handle cases independently with minimal supervision.</li><li>
Excellent oral advocacy and negotiation skills.</li><li>
Experience with trial preparation and courtroom appearances.</li><li>
Knowledge of iManage document management software and/or Forms Workflow a plus.</li><li>
Trial or binding arbitration experience is a plus.</li></ul>
