Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented and energetic Contract Accountant (Non-Profit) Part-Time to join our dynamic finance team. This position is perfect for someone eager to apply their accounting skills in a flexible, impactful environment while fostering continuous learning and mentoring within the team.Duties<ul><li>Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and nonprofit accounting standards</li><li>Manage accounts payable and receivable processes using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, or Sage, ensuring accuracy and timeliness</li><li>Perform bank reconciliations, general ledger reconciliations, and account analysis to maintain precise financial records</li><li>Conduct balance sheet reconciliation and account reconciliation activities to ensure data integrity across all financial reports</li><li>Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial management activities to support organizational planning and decision-making</li><li>Support regulatory reporting requirements including compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) controls and LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit) regulations where applicable</li><li>Contribute to internal audits by preparing audit schedules, supporting documentation, and implementing best practices for internal controls</li><li>Interpret complex financial concepts and prepare clear financial report writing for stakeholders; analyze financial reports for accuracy and insights</li><li>Maintain detailed records of journal entries, accrual accounting transactions, and other bookkeeping activities using PeopleSoft or similar financial software</li><li>Provide mentorship to junior staff or interns on accounting procedures, software use, and regulatory compliance</li></ul>Qualifications<ul><li>Proven experience in nonprofit accounting with knowledge of GAAP standards and federal/state regulatory requirements</li><li>Strong technical accounting skills including experience with SOX compliance, securities law, governmental accounting, and tax law such as wills, trusts &amp; estate law</li><li>Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, PeopleSoft or similar platforms; advanced skills in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting</li><li>Familiarity with financial report interpretation, financial statement preparation, cash flow analysis, budget development, and forecasting techniques</li><li>Experience with account reconciliation processes including bank reconciliation and general ledger reconciliation</li><li>Knowledge of public accounting practices combined with hands-on experience in auditing or regulatory reporting is highly desirable</li><li>Excellent understanding of double entry bookkeeping principles including debits &amp; credits; ability to perform detailed account analysis accurately</li><li>Strong organizational skills with the ability to mentor team members effectively while managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines</li><li>Demonstrated financial acumen with an ability to interpret complex financial data into actionable insights for diverse audiences</li></ul>This Contract Accountant position offers a unique chance to leverage your expertise in a meaningful way while enjoying the flexibility of part-time work.
