Job Description for the Position: Electrical Design EngineerJob SummaryThe Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for the detailed design, engineering, and execution of high-voltage (HV) and extra-high-voltage (EHV) substation projects up to 400kV. The role involves developing both primary and secondary engineering designs, ensuring technical compliance, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and clients to deliver projects successfully from the concept stage through to energization.Key ResponsibilitiesPrimary design<ul><li>Layouts: Produce single-line diagrams (SLDs), Overall layouts for Air-Insulated Switchgear (AIS) and Gas-Insulated Switchgear (GIS) for 132kV, 220kV and 400kV Substations, electrical plans and sections, and lightning protection layouts.</li><li>Calculations: Perform necessary electrical calculations, including:</li><li>Earthing (grounding) grid design and analysis</li><li>Lighting design for switchyards and buildings</li><li>Busbar sizing (rigid and flexible) for short-circuit and ampacity requirements</li><li>Equipment sizing for transformers, circuit breakers, surge arresters, and other high-voltage components</li><li>DC system calculations, including battery and battery charger sizing</li><li>Cable sizing and cable tray/trench layouts</li></ul>Secondary design and protection<ul><li>Protection and control: Formulate protection and control schemes and prepare the associated logic diagrams, wiring diagrams, and schematics.</li><li>System studies: Conduct and analyze power system studies using software like ETAP/ DigSilent, including load flow, short-circuit, and protection coordination studies.</li><li>SCADA and communication: Design and integrate SCADA/ SCS systems and communication networks for the substation.</li></ul>Documentation and coordination<ul><li>Technical specifications: Prepare detailed technical specifications and data sheets for all electrical equipment and materials.</li><li>Vendor coordination: Coordinate with vendors and review their technical offers and engineering drawings for compliance with project specifications.</li><li>Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with civil, structural, and control engineers to manage design interfaces and ensure seamless project integration.</li><li>Reporting: Prepare technical reports, progress reports, and engineering documentation throughout the project lifecycle.</li></ul>Project execution support<ul><li>Procurement support: Assist with the procurement process, including the preparation of tender documents and technical bid evaluations.</li><li>Site support: Provide technical support to the construction, testing, and commissioning teams, and resolve any design-related issues that arise on site.</li><li>Quality assurance: Conduct design reviews and quality checks to ensure all project deliverables meet safety, quality, and performance standards.</li></ul>Qualifications and Experience<ul><li>Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from a reputed university. A Master's degree is often preferred.</li><li>Experience: A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in HV/EHV substation design, with specific experience on 400kV projects.</li><li>Certification: Training on electrical software would be an added advantage.</li><li>Standards: Thorough knowledge of relevant international standards (IEC, IEEE) and national/local grid codes.</li></ul>Required Skills<ul><li>Technical expertise: Proven proficiency in primary and secondary substation design, including GIS and AIS technologies.</li><li>Software proficiency: Expertise with relevant design and analysis software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, ETAP, DigSilent or PSCAD.</li><li>Problem-solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex design issues.</li><li>Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and stakeholder coordination.</li><li>Project management: Strong project management, time management, and organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.</li></ul>Safety mindset: Strong commitment to safety and quality standards.Job Types: Full-time, PermanentPay: RO1,200.000 - RO1,500.000 per month

Electrical Protection Engineer (400kV, 220kV, 132kV Substations)Job SummaryThe Electrical Protection Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of power system protection and control for a 400kV substation project. The role involves designing, implementing, and commissioning protective relay schemes to ensure the stability and security of the electrical grid in accordance with industry standards and client specifications.Responsibilities<ul><li>Design and Engineering:</li></ul>o Develop and review protection philosophies, single-line diagrams (SLDs), protection and metering diagrams (PMDs), and block logic diagrams (BLDs).o Perform and oversee power system studies, including fault analysis, short-circuit calculations, and protection coordination studies.o Prepare detailed engineering specifications for protection, control, and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems.o Review equipment specifications and vendor drawings for compliance with project requirements including Control &amp; Relay panels, OLCMs, etc.o Coordinate with other engineering disciplines (e.g., SCS/ SCADA, Cyber Security, Integrated Safety &amp; Security System, Telecom, etc.) to ensure seamless integration.<ul><li>Relay Settings and Configuration:</li></ul>o Calculate and prepare protective relay settings and logic files for all substation equipment (e.g., GIS, transformers, busbars, transmission lines, etc.).o Utilize power system analysis software such as ETAP, PSCAD, or PSS/E for relay settings and studies.o Configure Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), including numerical protection relays and Bay Control Units (BCUs).<ul><li>Testing and Commissioning:</li></ul>o Develop Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Acceptance Test (SAT) procedures for protection and control systems.o Supervise and witness protection testing activities, including scheme testing, end-to-end testing, and function testing.o Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during testing and commissioning.<ul><li>Compliance and Documentation:</li></ul>o Ensure all designs and activities comply with relevant international standards (e.g., IEC, IEEE) and local Grid Codes and Transmission Security Standards.o Prepare and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including design reports, test reports, and as-built drawings.<ul><li>Collaboration and Project Management:</li></ul>o Act as the primary technical point of contact for protection issues with clients, and EPC contractors.o Provide technical support and guidance to the project team and junior engineers.o Support project managers in developing scopes of work, schedules, and cost estimates.Qualifications<ul><li>Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.</li><li>Experience: Minimum 10 Years&rsquo; proven experience in power system protection and control design for high-voltage substations, with specific experience at the 400kV level.</li><li>Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license or Chartered Engineer status would be an added advantage.</li><li>Technical Skills:</li></ul>o Proficiency with modern protection relays from manufacturers like Siemens, GE, ABB, and SEL.o Formal training on modern protection relays from manufacturers like Siemens, GE, ABB, and SEL is desirable.o Solid understanding of communication protocols such as IEC 61850.o Familiarity with substation automation systems and SCADA integration.o Knowledge of various protection schemes for different substation components (e.g., busbar, line, transformer differential).<ul><li>Soft Skills:</li></ul>o Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.o Excellent written and verbal communication skills.o Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.o Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.Desired Characteristicso Demonstrated technical leadership and ability to mentor junior engineers.o Experience in Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) environments.o Willingness to travel to project sites as required for witnessing the pre-commissioning test work.Job Types: Full-time, PermanentPay: RO1,800.000 - RO2,000.000 per monthExperience:<ul><li>Electrical Protection Design &amp; Review: 10 years (Required)</li></ul>
