I. Purpose / Summary:The purpose of the Fire Captain is to aid in the daily response across Marlboro County. A Fire Captain will support the fire service by initiating or assisting with the incident command structure. These non-exempt, 40-Hour week employees will also strengthen responses by allowing an on-call fire service employee for nights and weekends. These employees will be roving in an assigned vehicle within their designated zones for quick response during scheduled hours.II. Essential Functions:&middot; Responds to all types of fires and other emergencies; extinguishes fires and performs related life and property protection.&middot; Initiate and/or maintain Incident Command for working incidents.&middot; Ability to make critical decisions by directing emergency scene operations.&middot; Ability to drive and operate emergency apparatus on and off emergency scenes.&middot; Ability to knowingly, effectively, and safely use Fire Service equipment. Ex. Fire Pumps, Hoses, Nozzles, Hand Tools, Gas Powered Equipment, Battery Powered Equipment, Ladders, Fans, Extrication Equipment (Gas/Battery), and Specialty Apparatus (Ladder Trucks, Watercraft, Etc.)&middot; Participates in daily functions of the Fire Service with limited administrative responsibilities. Ex. Communication Checks, General Housekeeping, Incident Response, Record Management, Scheduling for Equipment Maintenance/Testing, etc.&middot; Participate in Fire Service Programs, such as Pre-Fire Planning and Fire Hydrant Checks.&middot; Ability to maintain a Customer Service mindset when dealing with or addressing members of the public.&middot; Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.&middot; Ability to pass an annual physical and obtain an OSHA required Fit Test.&middot; Ability to properly wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).&middot; Assist in managing part-time staff to ensure fire stations and apparatus are covered and in working order.&middot; Ability to implement and positively reinforce County Gov&rsquo;t and Fire Service policies and procedures.&middot; Perform other Fire Service or Management Duties as assigned.III. Skills / Education: &middot; High School Diploma or Equivalent&middot; Valid S.C. Class E Driver&rsquo;s License or Fire Department Endorsement&middot; Minimum of 5 Years of Full Time Fire Service ExperienceIV. Certifications Required: &middot; NFPA Firefighter II&middot; EVDT&middot; Pump Ops I&middot; Pump Ops II&middot; Aerial Ops&middot; NIMS-ICS for the Fire Service&middot; ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800&middot; Hazardous Materials Operations&middot; Technical Rescuer&middot; NFPA Fire Instructor I&middot; NFPA Fire Officer IV. Preferred Certification: &middot; BLS Provider (CPR and AED)&middot; NR-EMT&middot; Preparation for Initial Company Operations&middot; Strategy and Tactics for Initial Company Operations&middot; Decision Making for Initial Company Operations&middot; Incident Safety Officer&middot; NFPA Fire Officer IIVI.
