The CAD Designer is responsible for creating, developing, and improving detailed 2D and 3D mechanical designs for Merrell Bros. equipment and systems&mdash;such as biosolids processing equipment, belt presses, vacuum rollers, conveyors, pellet mills, piping systems, platforms, and full plant layouts. The role supports engineering, manufacturing, R&amp;D, field operations, and procurement by producing accurate engineering drawings, models, BOMs, and documentation. The goal is to ensure Merrell Bros. products are delivered &quot;On Specification, On Time, and On Cost.&quot;</p><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Job Functions &amp; Responsibilities</b></h2><p>
</p><ul><li>Create detailed 3D models and 2D engineering drawings using CAD tools (SolidWorks preferred).</li><li>Develop layouts, assemblies, and fabrication drawings for mechanical equipment.</li><li>Generate BOMs, cut lists, and manufacturing packages.</li><li>Support engineers in developing new products and refining existing systems.</li><li>Convert design concepts into manufacturable models and drawings.</li><li>Prepare prototype models, design sketches, and renderings.</li><li>Participate in internal design reviews and incorporate feedback.</li><li>Work with Engineering, R&amp;D, Manufacturing, Project Management, Quality, and Sales.</li><li>Provide technical drawings and documentation to field teams and customers.</li><li>Collaborate with vendors and suppliers for outsourced components.</li><li>Manage multiple design projects and prioritize based on deadlines.</li><li>Ensure drawings meet Merrell Bros. standards for clarity, accuracy, and manufacturability.</li><li>Maintain revision control and participate in Engineering Change Notice (ECN) processes.</li><li>Ensure compliance with mechanical design and safety requirements.</li><li>Use design tools and templates to improve efficiency.</li><li>Identify opportunities to improve manufacturability and reduce cost.</li></ul><h2 class="jobSectionHeader">
Experience, Knowledge, and Skills</h2><ul><li>7+ years of CAD design experience in mechanical or industrial equipment.</li><li>Strong proficiency with SolidWorks including weldments, sheet metal, and assemblies.</li><li>Experience designing with stainless steel, mild steel, plastics, and fabrication tolerances.</li><li>Understanding of manufacturing processes (welding, machining, forming, assembly).</li><li>Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects.</li><li>Ability to read and produce engineering drawings to industry standards.</li><li>Strong problem-solving skills with a hands-on, practical mindset.</li><li>Experience in PDM or similar system.
</li></ul><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Education &amp; Training</b></h2><ul><li>Associate&rsquo;s or Bachelor&rsquo;s Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, CAD/Design Technology, or similar.</li><li>SolidWorks certification (CSWA/CSWP) preferred.</li><li>Six Sigma or process improvement training beneficial.</li></ul><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Physical Demands</b></h2><ul><li>Extended computer work.</li><li>Ability to inspect detailed drawings and models.</li><li>Occasional movement through shop and warehouse areas.</li><li>Requires clear communication and listening skills.</li></ul><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Work Environment</b></h2><ul><li>Fast-paced, shifting-priority engineering environment.</li><li>Office-based with frequent visits to shop, warehouse, and production areas.</li><li>Exposure to noise, dust, and temperature changes (PPE required).</li><li>Collaboration via in-person, phone, and written communication.</li></ul></div>
