<div>Oglethorpe University, Atlanta&rsquo;s leading private liberal arts university, is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join the Finance Office. This position supports a variety of general accounting functions including accounts receivable, cash management, accounts payable, month-end close activities, and audit preparation. The Staff Accountant works collaboratively with departments across campus to support financial operations and ensure accuracy and compliance in financial reporting.
Duties and Responsibilities<ul><li>
Support billing and receivable processes to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial transactions and related systems.</li><li>
Research and resolve discrepancies in account balances, including tuition charges, fees, and payment activity.</li><li>
Support cash receipt activities for the University, including posting and analysis of student payments, gifts, and other receipts.</li><li>
Support accounts payable processes to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial transactions and related records.</li><li>
Assist with month-end and fiscal year-end close processes, including preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations.</li><li>
Assist with the preparation and coordination of financial and operational reporting for internal stakeholders and external agencies.</li><li>
Collaborate with departments across campus to address financial inquiries and support accurate and timely reporting.</li><li>
Support internal control procedures and assist in identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and strengthen financial processes.</li><li>
Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.</li></ul>
Minimum Qualifications<ul><li>
Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in Accounting or a related field preferred and two to four years of progressively responsible accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.</li><li>
Experience with Sage Intacct and/or a student information system such as Ellucian Colleague preferred.</li><li>
Experience in nonprofit or higher-education accounting is a plus.
