Oglethorpe University, Atlanta’s leading private liberal arts university, is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join the Finance Office. This position supports a variety of general accounting functions including accounts receivable, cash management, accounts payable, month-end close activities, and audit preparation. The Staff Accountant works collaboratively with departments across campus to support financial operations and ensure accuracy and compliance in financial reporting.
Duties and Responsibilities

Support billing and receivable processes to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial transactions and related systems.

Research and resolve discrepancies in account balances, including tuition charges, fees, and payment activity.

Support cash receipt activities for the University, including posting and analysis of student payments, gifts, and other receipts.

Support accounts payable processes to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial transactions and related records.

Assist with month-end and fiscal year-end close processes, including preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations.

Assist with the preparation and coordination of financial and operational reporting for internal stakeholders and external agencies.

Collaborate with departments across campus to address financial inquiries and support accurate and timely reporting.

Support internal control procedures and assist in identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and strengthen financial processes.

Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field preferred and two to four years of progressively responsible accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience with Sage Intacct and/or a student information system such as Ellucian Colleague preferred.

Experience in nonprofit or higher-education accounting is a plus.
