About the Role:
The Phlebotomist plays a critical role in the healthcare system by accurately and safely collecting blood specimens from patients for diagnostic testing, transfusions, research, or blood donations. This position requires meticulous attention to detail to ensure proper identification, labeling, and handling of specimens to maintain sample integrity and patient safety. The Phlebotomist must establish a calm and reassuring environment for patients of all ages and backgrounds, effectively managing any anxiety or discomfort associated with blood draws. Additionally, the role involves maintaining compliance with all health and safety regulations, including infection control protocols and proper disposal of biohazard materials. Ultimately, the Phlebotomist contributes to timely and accurate laboratory results that are essential for patient diagnosis and treatment planning.
Minimum Qualifications:<ul><li>
High school diploma or equivalent.</li><li>
Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program.</li><li>
Demonstrated proficiency in venipuncture and blood collection techniques.</li><li>
Knowledge of specimen handling, labeling, and processing standards.</li><li>
Current Texas Texas driver's license and proof of liability insurance.</li><li>
Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems for specimen documentation.</li><li>
Driver's license and automobile liability insurance</li><li>
Strong interpersonal skills with experience in patient care or customer service.</li></ul>
Preferred Qualifications:<ul><li>
Experience working in a clinical or hospital laboratory setting.</li><li>
Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification.</li></ul>
Responsibilities:<ul><li>
Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture to collect blood specimens from patients following established protocols.</li><li>
Verify patient identity and ensure proper labeling and documentation of all specimens collected.</li><li>
Prepare and process specimens for laboratory analysis, including plasma processing techniques when required.</li><li>
Maintain and calibrate phlebotomy equipment and supplies to ensure safety and functionality.</li><li>
Monitor and record vital signs as needed during specimen collection to ensure patient safety.</li><li>
Adhere to infection control and safety procedures, including proper disposal of sharps and biohazard materials.</li><li>
Communicate effectively with patients to explain procedures and alleviate concerns.</li><li>
Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.</li><li>
Collect specimens from PPGH Clinic</li><li>
Collaborate with healthcare team members to coordinate specimen collection schedules and resolve any issues.</li></ul>
Skills:
The required skills such as drawing blood, venipuncture, and specimen collection are fundamental to the daily responsibilities of a Phlebotomist, ensuring accurate and safe blood draws. Proficiency in blood drawing and specimen processing techniques allows the Phlebotomist to prepare samples correctly for laboratory analysis, maintaining sample integrity. Knowledge of plasma processing techniques enhances the ability to handle specialized specimens when necessary. The ability to monitor vital signs supports patient safety during procedures, especially for those with health concerns. Preferred skills like familiarity with electronic health records and strong communication abilities improve workflow efficiency and patient experience, enabling the Phlebotomist to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team. 
Day Shift: 0500 AM-13:30PM.
 
This position is an hourly position budgeted for 40 hours per week. Eligible for overtime pay and shift differential, when applicable.</div>

The Patient Care Tech PRN in the Emergency Department plays a critical role in supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. This position is responsible for assisting nursing staff with direct patient care activities, ensuring patient comfort, safety, and timely response to their needs. The role requires adaptability to fluctuating patient volumes and acuity levels, providing essential support during peak times .The Patient Care Tech acts as a vital liaison between patients, families, and the healthcare team, contributing to a positive patient experience. Ultimately, this position helps maintain efficient emergency department operations by delivering compassionate, attentive, and skilled care on an as-needed basis.
Minimum Qualifications:<ul><li>
High school diploma or equivalent</li><li>
Completion of a Patient Care Technician training program or equivalent experience.</li><li>
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.</li><li>
Ability to work flexible schedule; nights, weekends; holidays, days.</li><li>
Demonstrated ability to handle high-pressure situations with professionalism and composure.</li><li>
Ability to follow and comprehend verbal and written instructions</li><li>
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.</li></ul>
Preferred Qualifications:<ul><li>
Previous experience working in an emergency department or acute care setting.</li><li>
Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.</li></ul>
Responsibilities:<ul><li>
Assist nursing staff with basic patient care tasks such as vital signs monitoring, hygiene assistance, and mobility support.</li><li>
Respond promptly to patient call lights and requests, ensuring patient comfort and safety at all times.</li><li>
Prepare and maintain patient care areas, including cleaning and restocking supplies to support infection control standards.</li><li>
Observe and report changes in patient condition or behavior to the nursing team to facilitate timely interventions.</li><li>
Support patient transport within the facility, including movement to diagnostic tests or treatment areas.</li><li>
Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated and efficient patient care delivery.</li><li>
Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements related to patient care and safety.</li></ul>
Skills:
The required skills enable the Patient Care Tech to perform essential clinical tasks such as monitoring vital signs and assisting with patient hygiene, which are critical for maintaining patient well-being in the emergency department. This position will need to be available to work as needed for days, nights, weekend, and holidays.
 
This position is PRN and is not eligible for benefits. This position is hourly and is eligible, if applicable for overtime pay.</div>
