About the Role:

The Patient Care Tech PRN in the Emergency Department plays a critical role in supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. This position is responsible for assisting nursing staff with direct patient care activities, ensuring patient comfort, safety, and timely response to their needs. The role requires adaptability to fluctuating patient volumes and acuity levels, providing essential support during peak times .The Patient Care Tech acts as a vital liaison between patients, families, and the healthcare team, contributing to a positive patient experience. Ultimately, this position helps maintain efficient emergency department operations by delivering compassionate, attentive, and skilled care on an as-needed basis.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a Patient Care Technician training program or equivalent experience.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule; nights, weekends; holidays, days.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle high-pressure situations with professionalism and composure.
  • Ability to follow and comprehend verbal and written instructions
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in an emergency department or acute care setting.
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist nursing staff with basic patient care tasks such as vital signs monitoring, hygiene assistance, and mobility support.
  • Respond promptly to patient call lights and requests, ensuring patient comfort and safety at all times.
  • Prepare and maintain patient care areas, including cleaning and restocking supplies to support infection control standards.
  • Observe and report changes in patient condition or behavior to the nursing team to facilitate timely interventions.
  • Support patient transport within the facility, including movement to diagnostic tests or treatment areas.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated and efficient patient care delivery.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements related to patient care and safety.

Skills:

The required skills enable the Patient Care Tech to perform essential clinical tasks such as monitoring vital signs and assisting with patient hygiene, which are critical for maintaining patient well-being in the emergency department. Strong communication skills facilitate effective interaction with patients, families, and healthcare team members, ensuring clear and compassionate information exchange. The ability to work collaboratively supports seamless coordination of care and efficient workflow in a high-pressure environment. Preferred skills, such as familiarity with EHR systems and advanced certifications, enhance the ability to document care accurately and respond to complex clinical situations. Together, these skills ensure the Patient Care Tech can provide safe, responsive, and patient-centered care while adapting to the dynamic demands of the emergency department.


This position will need to be available to work as needed for days, nights, weekend, and holidays.
This position is PRN and is not eligible for benefits. This position is hourly and is eligible, if applicable for overtime pay.
