What Will you Do?
The Occupational Therapy Intern will complete individual evaluations, supplemental treatments, and group interventions with individuals with various mental health diagnosis under the supervision of a licensed and registered Occupational Therapist. As a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team, Occupational Therapy Interns will utilize clinical skills associated with current training in area of expertise, the expressive arts therapies, occupational therapies and psycho-educational interventions, to plan, organize and implement a program of ancillary services. Assesses patients' capabilities, needs, interests and goals and designs an individualized treatment program consistent with interdisciplinary team's goals in addition to providing Occupational Therapy specific evaluations as ordered by interdisciplinary team. In the mental health setting, the Occupational Therapist Intern will provide individualized and group treatment for patients to improve adaptive function in &ldquo;occupational performance categories&rdquo; which includes, but is not limited to social skills, leisure activities, cognitive abilities, daily living skills and perceptions of self-worth. The Occupational Therapy Intern must demonstrate excellent customer service and have enthusiasm about the program and the Pine Rest organization.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:<ul><li>Completes individual evaluations and treatments as appropriate, and supported with a doctor&rsquo;s order, under the supervision of a licensed and registered Occupational Therapist.</li><li>Assesses patient care needs, develops/implements a treatment plan in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, continually reassesses treatment plan.</li><li>Plans and participates in milieu and psychoeducational programming, including but not limited to teaching, skill building, therapy groups, social interventions, decision making skills, and general life management skills.</li><li>Establishes therapeutic relationships with patients.</li><li>Provides input to the interdisciplinary treatment plan while functioning as a team member.</li><li>Responsible for monitoring and reporting to manager and unit leaders any potential risk to patient safety that could lead to an adverse outcome.</li><li>Utilizes processes to conserve financial resources.</li><li>Responsible for documenting and reporting all necessary information according to established policies and procedures.</li><li>Creates a patient friendly environment by following quality improvement standards and maintaining professionalism.</li><li>Is responsible to actively participate, as needed, in safety management, crisis intervention and prevention. This may include monitoring, assessment, verbal de-escalation, and emergency psychiatric and medical care.</li><li>Works in various clinical settings with diverse patient populations.</li><li>Serves on committees as needed.</li><li>Promotes positive communication amongst all members of the treatment team.</li><li>Collaborates in follow up with disciplinary action.</li><li>Collaborate with AT Clinical Services Manager and Recreational Therapy Leads regarding internships and other departmental activities.</li><li>Educate patients, family members, and other clinicians in how to provide for the needs of a patient during and after therapy. Recommend changes in patients' work or living environments, consistent with their needs and capabilities.</li><li>Design and create, or requisition, special supplies or adaptive equipment to support patient specific interventions,</li><li>Plan, organize, and conduct occupational therapy programs in hospital, residential, or community settings to help rehabilitate those impaired because of illness and/or injury.</li><li>Responsible to role model the mission and values of the organization, presenting a professional image that is projected in appearance, attitudes and behaviors, time management and communication skills. What Does the Role Require?<ul><li>Enrolled in an accredited masters or doctoral degree program for Occupational Therapy, or similar degree, which leads to the ability to sit for the NBCOT Certification Exam.</li><li>Exposure of relevant psychiatric/medical/clinical experience is helpful to plan and implement therapeutic, interactive education group sessions and interventions, though not required.</li><li>Knowledge of current therapy principles in area of expertise associated with Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), psychoeducational interventions, expressive arts, and occupational therapies to plan, organize and implement a program of ancillary services.</li></ul>

What Will You Do?
As a Clinical Therapist at Pine Rest, you&rsquo;ll be part of tight-knit team that believes in the healing power of your expertise and compassion. Within the framework of the organization is responsible to be a professional caregiver who provides assessment, counseling, treatment and gives referrals and advocacy services for patients. Is also responsible for upholding the highest quality care, keeping with all standards and bylaws set by government agencies as well as Pine Rest.<div>

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:</div><div><ul><li>
Participates in the interviewing of persons served and assessing them through mental status as well as reviewing records obtained from other patient care staff.</li><li>
Selects and completes appropriate therapeutic interventions based upon clinical knowledge base and educational background (to include individual, group, family, experiential, and evidence based models).</li><li>
Collaborates with other treatment team members regarding patients&rsquo; progress through interdisciplinary team meetings, record review, and informal discussions.</li><li>
Ensures that medical record documentation protocols are complied with. Ensures that persons&rsquo; served progress notes are entered into the medical records on a timely basis and in accordance with established organizational and departmental procedures.</li><li>
May coordinate services and community resources as needed and assist person&rsquo;s served in obtaining them.</li><li>
Participates regularly in departmental and staff meetings. Serves on programs or organizational committees as required and as time and workload allow.</li><li>
Maintains all Michigan licensure requirements.</li><li>
Builds knowledge of current trends and developments in treatment and counseling through the use of appropriate professional literature, medical workshops and publications. Fulfills continuing education requirements as per PRCMHS departmental policies.</li><li>
Participates in education and training programs for persons served, families, or community groups.</li><li>
May write behavior management plans for patients as part of consultation.</li><li>
Provides consultation to professionals, hospitals, organizations, or agencies outside of Pine Rest.</li><li>
Membership and involvement in local, state, and national professional organizations is encouraged.</li><li>
Creates a customer-friendly environment.</li><li>
May need to visit a person served at their home.</li><li>
May be required to work weekends and or evenings.</li><li>
May provide supervison and training to interns as assigned.</li><li>
May conduct research.</li><li>
May be required to support and promote a recovery focused environment and person-centered approach within the program.</li><li>
May initiate and implement clinical safety precautions and/or safety provisions.</li><li>
May assist in the development and initiation of safety plans during crisis situations.</li><li>
Responsible to uphold the healing ministry of Christ through relationships that honor integrity, stewardship, empowerment, the promotion of diversity and professional excellence.</li><li>
Must maintain annual training and demonstrate competency in the required programmatic training.</li><li>
Performs other duties or functions as assigned.</li></ul>
Additional Responsibilities for the Lotus Department:</div><ul><li>
Provides direct clinical care and clinical feedback when assisting in the program.</li><li>
Direct tasks of team/program members, actively participating in each task.</li><li>
Communicates clinical changes to program clinical team and on-call clinician.</li><li>
Utilize evidence-based interventions to assist with clinical care of all residents.</li><li>
Assistance and participation in crisis situations during times of escalation.</li><li>
Support and promote a recovery focused environment and person-centered approach within the program.</li><li>
Provide consistent leadership during crisis situations.</li></ul>
What Does This Role Require?
Education/Experience:<ul><li>
Current state licensure in an accredited Master&rsquo;s level program in Social Work, limited license Psychologist or Professional Counseling.</li><li>
Obtain and maintain in good standing certification commiserate with treatment provided.</li><li>
Trained to work in the age group of the patient being served with annual continuing age specific education and demonstrated competence.</li><li>
One to two years of postgraduate clinical experience.</li></ul>
