Position SummaryThe Collections/Programming Assistant supports daily library operations through a blend of technical services, public service, and programming responsibilities. This position works closely with the Director and Assistant Director to maintain and enhance the library&rsquo;s collection, improve user access, and deliver engaging programs for the community. ________________________________________Key ResponsibilitiesCollection Management<ul><li>Assist with cataloging library materials, ensuring accurate Machine-Readable Catalog (MARC) records</li><li>Process all new materials, including labeling, barcoding, stamping, and applying protective coverings</li><li>Assign and verify classification labels and Dewey Decimal numbers</li><li>Maintain organization of new materials, including shelving and shifting items as needed</li><li>Run reports and queries related to the library&rsquo;s collection</li><li>Track collection purchases and maintain records using spreadsheets</li><li>Recommend materials for purchase</li><li>Assist with weeding (de-selection) in accordance with library policy</li></ul>Programming &amp; Outreach<ul><li>Assist in planning, promoting, implementing, and evaluating programs for children and adults</li><li>Support the Summer Reading Program from planning through wrap-up</li><li>Help create and distribute marketing materials for programs and services</li></ul>Website &amp; Digital Content<ul><li>Perform regular updates to the library website</li><li>Ensure website content meets ADA accessibility standards</li><li>Create and post event content</li></ul>Public Service<ul><li>Staff the circulation desk as scheduled</li><li>Assist patrons with circulation, reference questions, and basic technology support</li><li>Help process interlibrary loan deliveries and materials from partner libraries</li></ul>Collaboration &amp; Administrative Support<ul><li>Work closely with the Director and Assistant Director on projects and daily operations</li><li>Assist with special projects and ongoing initiatives</li><li>Participate in professional development opportunities, including webinars and regional cataloging meetings</li><li>Cross-train in various library functions</li></ul>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities<ul><li>Knowledge of children&rsquo;s and young adult literature, developmental needs, and emerging trends.</li><li>Strong programming, public speaking, and storytelling skills.</li><li>Ability to plan, organize, and evaluate programs and services effectively.</li><li>Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with children, teens, families, and volunteers, and provide outstanding customer service.</li><li>Creativity, flexibility, and enthusiasm for a small, collaborative library environment.</li><li>Demonstrated proficiency with current technology, including computers, mobile devices, online resources, Canva, social media platforms, website maintenance, and digital literacy tools.</li><li>Ability to work independently, adapt to changing priorities, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.</li></ul>Physical Requirements<ul><li>Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, push and pull book carts, and move library materials as needed.</li><li>Ability to stand, bend, use the hands to write, grasp, and keyboard; talk; hear; sit, stand, walk, bend, twist, reach with hands and arms and reach for extended periods.</li><li>Availability to work some evenings and weekends.</li><li>Ability to drive to off-site outreach events. The ideal candidate will enjoy engaging with families, fostering community partnerships, and contributing creative energy to a supportive and close-knit library team.
