Box 168 Orange City, IA 51041Criminal prosecutors are given substantial responsibility early in their careers and generally start handling various cases beginning with making charging determinations, overseeing discovery, handling pre-trial litigation, plea negotiating with defense counsels, and ending with an agreed to sentence or presentation of the case in a jury trial. Opportunities to handle more serious and complex cases are afforded as more experience is gained.Essential functions include but are not limited to:<ul><li>Prosecution of state law violations in criminal court</li><li>Preparing cases including research, brief writing, drafting pleadings, trial preparation, eliciting testimony, and oral arguments before a jury or judge</li><li>Plea negotiating with defense counsels</li><li>Assisting law enforcement agencies in investigations and charging decisions</li><li>Representing the state in mental health commitments, fine collection, juvenile delinquencies, and child welfare cases</li><li>Attending and presenting professional development trainings</li></ul>Requirements<ul><li>Juris Doctor Degree from an accredited law school</li><li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills</li><li>Admission to the bar of the State of Iowa, or eligible to take and pass the next available Iowa Bar Examination</li></ul>Job Type: Full-timePay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per yearBenefits:<ul><li>Dental insurance</li><li>Employee assistance program</li><li>Flexible spending account</li><li>Health insurance</li><li>Life insurance</li><li>Paid time off</li><li>Retirement plan</li><li>Vision insurance</li></ul>Work Location: In person
