St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church is a welcoming Lutheran (ELCA) church in Wauwatosa called to nurture faith, equip people to serve others, and make a difference in the world. We are seeking a skilled and principled Financial Administrator to maintain accurate bookkeeping, process financial income and expenses, and ensure efficient office operations. This is a comprehensive role responsible for the full financial life of our church, ensuring our resources are managed with integrity, accuracy, and professional excellence.Key Responsibilities<ul><li>Bookkeeping &amp; Payroll: Maintain all church accounting and financial records, process bills, and perform weekly bank and credit card reconciliations. Manage staff payroll and benefits, serving as the liaison for third-party processing systems.</li><li>Financial Oversight &amp; Stewardship: Collaborate with the Finance Committee and Treasurer on annual budget development. Proactively monitor monthly income and expenditures against estimates, flagging variances to leadership to ensure long-term stewardship goals are met.</li><li>Records &amp; Reporting: Manage member contribution and pledge data within church management software. Generate quarterly giving statements and produce detailed monthly financial reports to support the strategic decisions of the Church Council.</li><li>Compliance &amp; Administration: Assist with annual audits, coordinate building appraisal records, and ensure strict compliance with state and federal labor and tax laws.</li></ul>Qualifications<ul><li>Experience: Minimum of two years of professional accounting or bookkeeping experience.</li><li>Technical Skills: Strong foundational comfort with digital financial systems and Microsoft Excel; willingness to learn and manage church-specific software (e.g., Realm or Shepherd&rsquo;s Staff).</li><li>Education: High school diploma required; a four-year degree in a related field is preferred.</li><li>Core Competencies: Exceptional attention to detail, strong project management skills, and a steadfast commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality regarding member giving and sensitive financial records.</li></ul>How to Apply You may apply directly through Indeed or by emailing your materials to Pastor Kevin Kretzmann Farrar at PastorKevin@StMattsTosa.org.To be considered for this position, please ensure your application includes:<ul><li>A current resume.</li><li>A brief cover letter.</li><li>The names and contact information for two professional references.</li></ul>If you apply through Indeed, please include your references and cover letter as part of your resume attachment.
