Performs routine transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.</p><b>
Essential Duties:</b><h4 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
The essential duties for the Transportation Maintenance Tech I include:</b></h4><ul><li><p>
Assists in identifying, repairing and installing signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performs basic welding as needed; as required uses/moves equipment/tools, materials and products related to these activities.</p></li><li><p>
Assists in providing support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites; assists stranded motorists as required.</p></li><li><p>
Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic.</p></li><li><p>
Determines placement of traffic control devices and installs/moves devices.</p></li><li><p>
Inspects barricades to ensure compliance with barricade standards.</p></li><li><p>
Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.</p></li><li><p>
Maintains picnic and rest areas, rights-of-way, maintenance yards and comfort stations.</p></li><li><p>

Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment and completes various required reports including timekeeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms, and PMI.</p></li><li><p>
Sands or cleans bridges and roads, posts warning signs, helps the public and performs other work as directed during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, and hazardous material spills.</p></li><li><p>
Assists with inspecting maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.</p></li><li><p>
