Position Description</b><div></div><p><br>
Assists a Maintenance Section Supervisor in overseeing work completed by the crews and contractors, which provides a safe driving thoroughfare within a designated geographical area. Leads the work of transportation maintenance crews and support staff. Work requires responding to emergency notification on an as needed basis. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.</p><b>
Essential Duties:</b><ul><li>
Assists in budget preparation for the section.</li><li>
Assists in issuing driveway permits and estimating the size of drainage pipes for driveways.</li><li>
Assists the maintenance section supervisor in overseeing the work of the section and contracted crews including scheduling equipment, material and personnel necessary for section projects.</li><li>
Assists with planning, coordinating and implementing emergency response to inclement weather, accidents and hazardous spills affecting area roadways.</li><li>
Ensures all projects follow established safety guidelines.</li><li>
Handles public comments.</li><li>
Inspects road conditions, work-in-progress and work completed by the crews and contractors.</li><li>
Leads the work on transportation maintenance crews and support staff.</li><li>
Maintains records on materials, supplies and personnel.</li><li>
May assist with survey related activities.</li><li>
May operate light and heavy roadway equipment.</li><li>
Responsible for operations of section in absence of supervisor.</li><li>
Trains employees on the use of equipment and procedures.</li></ul></div><p></p><div><div><br>

Minimum Qualifications:</b><h4 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Education:</b></h4><p>
High School Grad or Equivalent in general education</p><h4 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Experience:</b></h4><p>
6 years of experience in roadway maintenance or construction related work (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent) Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Materials used in highway/bridge construction and maintenance.</li><li>
Inventory/stock control procedures.</li><li>
Budgeting methods and procedures.</li></ul><p>
Expert skills in:</p><ul><li>
Scheduling work assignments</li><li>
Administrative support practices and procedures to include writing, editing and report writing techniques, recording meeting notes, record keeping and records management.</li></ul><p>

Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both internal and external.</li><li>
Leading, assigning, reviewing and monitoring the work of others.</li><li>
Coordinating labor, materials and equipment.</li><li>

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:</b></h4><ul><li>
