Salary Pay Range

• Marine Communications Coordinator I : $35,439 - $52,388

• Marine Communications Coordinator II : $38,976 - $58,045

Performs as marine communications coordinator for a marine unit transporting crew members, public vehicles and passengers. Work requires frequent contact with private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

Essential Duties:

• Answers public inquiries and provides ferry schedule information.
• Coordinates emergency responses with local, county, state, and federal agencies.
• Assists with ferry operational and maintenance coordination.
• Coordinates priority boarding for emergency and authorized vehicles.
• Maintains continuous communication with operational ferries using VHF-FM marine radio systems.
• Operates traffic control systems, signs, signals, and barricades.
• Maintains operational logs and activity records.
• Coordinates after-hours delivery of supplies, repair parts, and equipment.
• Performs ferryboat deckhand duties as needed.
• Transmits and receives routine and emergency communications.
• Other duties as assigned

Marine Communication Coordinator II

In addition to MMC I duties, the MMC II may:

• Assists in coordinating traffic control activities with local law enforcement agencies.
• Assists in overseeing priority vehicle boarding operations.
• Assists in monitoring physical security inspections of ferry facilities and vessels.
• Assists in monitoring employee arrivals and departures.
• Assists in overseeing radio, landline, and communications systems.
• Assists in coordinating passenger and vehicle flow through ferry operations.
• Coordinates administrative and maintenance requirements for ferry vessels.

• Supports operational readiness and communications reliability.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience Marine Communications Coordinator I: 1 year experience in marine operations, including radio communications. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).
Experience Marine Communications Coordinator II: 3 year experience in marine operations, including radio communications. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).

Licenses and Certifications:

• Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

• For Galveston Ferry Operations: Must have or obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) within ninety (90) days of the date of hire.

Preferred Qualification:

• Active Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) upon application.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Work in varying conditions to include heavy traffic, overhead power lines and underground utilities

• Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
• Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour
• Subject to noise and vibration
• Subject to hazards-moving vehicles/mechanical parts, high places/heat, or chemicals
• Visual Acuity-operate machines, such as drill presses, power saws, and mills
• Visual Acuity-operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment
• Visual Acuity-determine work quality/make general observations of facilities/structures
