Town and Country Club Town and Country Club is a private social club founded in 1893. It is the second oldest woman&rsquo;s club in the nation. During the 1906 earthquake and fire, the clubhouse was destroyed and the members sought new quarters on Union Square. The club moved in to the current clubhouse in 1909 when the building was rebuilt.Town and Country Club is an equal opportunity employer in compliance with all city, state and federal regulations including San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance.Position Title: LibrarianPosition SummaryThe Librarian oversees the Club&rsquo;s library as a cultural, intellectual, and social resource for members. This role combines collection stewardship (curation), literary programming, member engagement, and coordination with the Club&rsquo;s communications team. The Librarian manages acquisitions and cataloging, supports committees and archives, and collaborates with staff to ensure the library remains welcoming, current, relevant, and well utilized.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesLibrary Operations &amp; Collection Management<ul><li>Select, acquire, catalog, and maintain library materials in alignment with collection goals</li><li>Maintain and expand the online catalog, including retrospective cataloging</li><li>Evaluate and responsibly weed the collection according to development policies</li><li>Monitor the library budget and Library Fund expenditures; recommend improvements or capital needs</li><li>Prepare monthly and annual reports on library usage, circulation, and acquisitions</li><li>Remain informed about publishing trends, notable titles, and book reviews</li></ul>Programming &amp; Member Engagement<ul><li>Coordinate the monthly book group, including title selection and purchasing</li><li>Provide reader&rsquo;s advisory and reference assistance to members</li><li>Prepare and distribute monthly new-acquisition notices and book group communications</li><li>Create displays, bibliographies, surveys, and other engagement initiatives</li><li>Ensure the library environment is welcoming, orderly, and inviting</li><li>Obtain and/or coordinate literary speakers, market and organize events related to visiting authors</li></ul>Committee &amp; Administrative Support<ul><li>Support Book Selection meetings and Library Committee activities</li><li>Prepare agendas, minutes, and supporting materials for meetings</li><li>Develop policy recommendations for the Library Director and Committee</li><li>Assist the Literary Discussion Group Chair with communications, surveys, and summaries</li><li>Support the maintenance of Club archives</li></ul>Club Collaboration<ul><li>Provide book group notices and new acquisition highlights for the weekly newsletter and monthly bulletin</li><li>Contribute to Club communications, marketing projects, and publications as needed</li><li>Provide administrative support, including correspondence and data entry, when required</li><li>Participate in training, cross-department initiatives, and special projects</li><li>Foster a collaborative and service-oriented environment across the Club</li></ul>Qualifications<ul><li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree required; library science, humanities, or related field preferred</li><li>Two to three years of relevant library or collection-management experience preferred</li><li>Knowledge of cataloging practices, acquisitions, and reference services</li><li>Strong organizational, project management, and budget awareness skills</li><li>Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with publishing/design software preferred</li><li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills</li><li>Broad literary knowledge and enthusiasm for reading and discussion</li><li>Strong member-service orientation and hospitality mindset</li><li>Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail</li><li>Experience in retail bookstore advantageous</li></ul>Physical RequirementsThe physical demands described here are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this position. The Librarian reports to the General Manager and works collaboratively with managers, committees, and administrative staff.Professional StandardsEmployees are expected to present a professional appearance and maintain standards consistent with the Club&rsquo;s environment.
