This position is located at Camp Pendleton, CA. Candidates selected for this position will serve as an Outdoor Adventures Manager.
 
Major Duties
 
INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this position is to market, develop and implement recreational activities for all active duty aboard Camp Pendleton. This person schedules and supervises large groups of active-duty units in a variety of recreational activities. This person must be able to utilize computer programs efficiently and effectively to complete administrative operations. This position reports directly to the Active Duty and Unit Recreation Department Head, Warrior Athlete Readiness and Resilience (WARR)-Semper Fit Division.
 
MAJOR DUTIES: The majority of the incumbents' time will be spent planning, organizing, and leading large groups of active-duty units in recreational activities. Recreational activities include rock climbing, bike riding, fishing, hiking, kayaking, archery, surfing, ocean activities, etc. Incumbent must be able to lead and apply established rules and regulations in supervising participants in those activities. In addition, incumbent must be comfortable towing small equipment trailers to event sites.
 
Always develops and ensures implementation of Operational Risk Management in accordance with Base Safety Program. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Advises groups on safety regulations, emergency procedures and proper use of equipment. Uses required safety equipment and observes safe work procedures. Ensures groups use proper safety precautions and corrects any unsafe actions. Promptly reports any injuries to their immediate supervisor.
 
Regularly monitors a large amount of recreational equipment. Maintains accurate inventory and maintenance records of all equipment. Ensures adequate storage of all equipment to maximize life expectancy and minimize breakage. Responsible for safety, repairs and replacements of all items when necessary.
 
Constantly provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Acknowledges customers, smiles and makes eye contact. Asks questions to determine, verify, and solve problems. Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts supervisor, or proper point of contact to assist when problems arise.
 
Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Must be able to work within the given budget for specific events. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Government Purchase Card to make necessary purchases for program needs. May be responsible for facility cash handling. Maintains all financial records and provide supporting data for budget changes.
 
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Supports all Warrior Athlete Readiness and Resilience (WARR) programming and services and Marine Corps Total Fitness (MCTF) strategy. Maintains confidentiality when collecting Personally Identifiable Information (PII). Restricts access to an individuals' private medical information (HIPPA). Engages in open lines of communication.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS: Applicants must be able to work early mornings, nights, weekends, and occasional holidays, in various locations on and off base. In addition, applicants must be willing to work more than 8 hours in a day. This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 451bs independently and objects over 45lbs with assistance. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Qualifications
 
A minimum of three years' experience leading and teaching recreational activities such as mountain biking, surfing, stand-up paddleboarding, archery etc. Must have at least one year experience in developing, managing, and maintaining a recreational or similar program A degree in Recreational Management or similar is preferred and may count as two years¿ experience. Incumbent will be required to obtain and maintain certifications or training in Wilderness First Responder, Archery Level 1 and personally lead outdoor recreational activities (archery, rock climbing etc.), Must have or obtain American Red Cross First Aid, CPR/AED within first 6-months of employment. Must possess a valid state driver¿s license.
 
Must have experience in planning and organizing programs and events. Must have a minimum of two years¿ experience in a variety of clerical duties such as typing, filing, record keeping, etc. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook (email), Windows, and navigating the web. Must have excellent oral and written communications skills. Must have excellent customer service skills and the ability to successfully plan, organize and execute events.  Major Duties
 
Majority of the incumbents' time will be spent assisting in the supervision of staff in the daily operations of the fitness facility to which assigned. Responsible for assisting the Fitness Center Manager with the overall operation and control of the facility, property and equipment. Assists with supervising the layout and cleanliness of the fitness center and surrounding areas such as outdoor strength & conditioning facilities, parking lots, tracks, and fields.
 
Assists the Fitness Center Manager with the purchase, upkeep, accurate inventory, and maintenance of equipment and property. May receive and register payment for services or sales using a cash register. Assists with training, scheduling of work shifts, performance appraisals, and supervision of civilian and/or active-duty staff. Deals with staff and patrons to resolve complaints and grievances.
 
Provides support to Semper Fit and other departments to accomplish objectives throughout base to include Warrior Athlete Readiness & Resilience (WARR) Human Performance program, working at races and other special events and representing Semper Fit at base activities.
 
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Government Purchase Card. Provides equipment purchasing suggestions and supporting data for new policies, programs, or budgets to higher level supervisor.
 
Provides support for athletic events and facility specialty events. Develops and administers special projects and special events within the WARR Department. Support active-duty requests, Force Fitness Instructors (FFI), and unit recreation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, kinesiology, fitness or related field from an accredited college or university OR three years of related work experience in the health and fitness industry OR an appropriate combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of knowledge and skill equivalent to that gained in the above. One year of supervisory experience required. Personal trainer certification from a nationally accredited certifying organization is preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook (email), Windows, and navigating the web. Possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Competencies to successfully plan, organize, and supervise. Capacity to maintain effective working relationships with other personnel, both inside and outside the organization. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. Must possess or become certified in CPR within 6 months of employment. Coordinates and performs a wide variety of responsible administrative functions in support of upper level management functions. Organizes flow of operational program processes in an office environment. Establishes status of actions on numerous projects and program operations. May serve on a variety of advisory committees. Arranges and maintains appointment calendars for staff. Routes incoming mail to staff and work sections. Establishes suspense dates to collect responses and submits information as required by requests.

Major Duties
 
Coordinates and performs a wide variety of responsible administrative functions in support of upper level management functions. Organizes flow of operational program processes in an office environment. Establishes status of actions on numerous projects and program operations. May serve on a variety of advisory committees. May be delegated signatory authority for selected administrative matters.
 
Reviews and interprets directives and regulations. Maintains official files. Advises staff on development and implementation of local administrative directives and procedures. Develops internal policies, procedures and work methods affecting administrative management operations. Ensures compliance by managers and supervisors by reviewing and revising studies, reports, correspondence for accuracy and format. Collects, compiles and organizes information and data to meet administrative requirements. Prepares correspondence and drafts instructions. Facilitates methods for automating reports and correspondence. Uses a personal computer to transmit correspondence, create reports, databases, spreadsheets, graphics, slide shows and presentations. Manipulates data to meet presentation and report requirements.
 
Enforces and trains employees on proper naval correspondence rules and correct grammar, spelling, capitalization and punctuation. Receives telephone callers, visitors, complaints and outside contacts and directs them to appropriate contacts when necessary. Receives and delivers messages to staff members. Arranges and maintains appointment calendars for staff. Routes incoming mail to staff and work sections. Establishes suspense dates to collect responses and submits information as required by requests.
 
May perform support functions such as gathering statistical data; monitoring and reporting on support budgets; assisting in developing financial plans, obligating funds, liquidating travel claims; maintaining stock of office supplies, making arrangements for special events; collecting and reviewing section timecards for supervisor's signature, preparing and conducting briefs, presentations and training sessions; monitoring and distributing personnel paperwork such as selection and recruitment requests, personnel actions, training notices, performance reviews, position descriptions, individual development plans.
 
Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems. Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.
 
Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses any required safety equipment, and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.

Performs other related duties as assigned. This is a white-collar position where occasional lifting up to 20 lbs may be required.
 
Qualifications
 
Three years experience that demonstrates broad knowledge of administrative practices and principles. Skill to organize and coordinate multiple high visibility projects simultaneously. Skill to prepare documentation and presentations in proper format in accordance with naval correspondence rules of grammar and punctuation. Skill to operate a personal computer, and associated peripheral equipment and software. Knowledge of a variety of support functions such as gathering statistical data, monitoring and reporting on support budgets, assisting in developing financial plans; obligating funds, liquidating travel claims; maintaining stock of office supplies. Skill to deal with employees at various levels in the organization and to represent the division with customers external to the organization.
